Another day of blood-letting and more to follow. Some makes no sense what-so-ever others yeah a good move, a few wished they we let go and more than a few who should have been sent packing. Both the G'burg and G'town sites are heavy with sadness and fear. My heart is heavy for those with families who's holidays have been ruined by all of this. I hope and pray for them to find jobs quickly.

We always seem to do the firing between Thanksgiving and Christmas. This one was clearly to get that 25 cent blip in the share price. Many good people let go. Sure, some may have 'deserved' it, but many were simply considered expendable.

Phew a rough ride today at the Gaithersburg facility. not sure just yet how many were let go but we enough tears, hugs and a few doors slammed this morning. The place was like a tomb, quiet little or no conversation in the canteen defiantly a rough Monday for all. I feel for those with families to lose your job in an economy where finding another job is poor at best and Christmas less than 3 weeks away is heartless. Why is it companies always seem to pick Christmas to lay people off? I just hope those who left today can find work before their severance and unemployment runs out, and that no one ends up homeless because they can't find a job. Thank you Qiagen management for your stellar job of maintaining a viable company.

The names of the CEO, CFO and the rest of the executive committee along with the NA management team should be at the very top of the list of cuts and all be fired. These are the people responsible for the lack of growth and innovation over the past 5+ years--not the employees. The current mgmt team doesn't have the skills or ability to come up with any ideas to increase growth, gain market share or create innovation so, instead of being leaders and taking responsibility, they have to blame somebody so they blame the employees.

It gets worse every year. When will the board and the shareholders wake up and force real changes to be made in this company.

I see that all open positions on the Qiagen website for DiGene, Germantown, and Frederick have been removed.

For sure the US will be done this week.

People are walking around here on eggshells. Monday will result in more layoffs and I hope it is not me.

Qiagen is a joke. I am so happy to have left last year.
No strategy on hpv. No new product. And Roche is taking one account after the other. Companion Diagnostic is nothing. Abbott is signing much more deals. And Virology. So fun. "We are the leader". AHAHAHA.
We do not sell any assay, but we are the leader. AHAHAHAH

The only thing that Qiagen does well is extraction. That is good. But that is no growing. The strategy is a dead-end.

Maybe one day the financial analyst will look after the headlines and read the numbers. They will actually see that there is no growth. Since at least 6 quarters. And the tall swiss guy will have left with his porsche and 3 millions share, and you - poor guys - will be laid-off by the hunter.

Qiagen upper management made several errors
- They cut costs in Digene, including headcounts involved in Lobbying. Then the market stop growing.
- The HC2 technology is from the 80's. Water bath. Come on. Absolute no innovation in 4 years.
- No high-troughput automation, even when it was clear that Roche, Hologic, Genprobe were coming.

These were deadly errors. Qiagen is a dead horse, but a great target for acquisition.

So, aside from talking nonsense, does anyone have facts? Anyone know which positions are gone, and from which locations?

It is sad. Senior Management is not afflicted by gravity and can continue to float above and away from reality. You must grant them that they will bring every offer for their stockplans.

Many exerienced and long term employees are affected! QIAGEN will lose lots of expertise and know how. The remaining employees will be demotivated, because it is know crystal clear:
You can work as hard as you can, but after 10- 15 years, you will be kicked out of the company (of course not if you member of the executive committee, because they do not make faults....).

enough said about the NA senior Mgmt. a bunch of politically motivated airheads, and the German aren't much better either, only know how to burry their heads in the sand thinking everything is fine and dandy.

Bad decisions made over the years based on operational "expertise" from NA senior management that did not exist. Should have cut that huge expense years ago with Digene merger. Why they were allowed to continue pretending they had technical knowledge and expertise developing IVDs when it became apparent there was nothing is a mystery. Big big salaries there that continued to be rewarded.

Dude leave the vulgar language out. There is no need for this. You weren't the only suffer from the cut. My stocks holding is what I have left to help get through the difficult times.

We were told 8- 10% of the 3200 Qiagen employees will be let go. Such wonderful timing it make the impact that much more painful.

Hopefully the stock will bounce back. It has been badly beaten.

We have heard today 250 persons worldwide (which makes 6%), 150 persons in Germany. List of names exists and will be announced Wednesday Nov 30th.
