Qiagen reported after the close of the market Monday that it will cut between 8 percent and 10 percent of its global workforce in a reorganization intended to improve efficiency and resource allocation.

Hello, Please start listing
Hello, Please start listing all the wonderful things QIAGEN does for us. I am getting mad to read all this stuff andI have worked here for a very long time. We all help each other out and try not to worry about all these upper management decisions and the things we cannot control. I happen to like my "overhead" job and the people I work with and for the price the cafe food aint too bad. So there!
ROFL sorry to laugh but
ROFL sorry to laugh but the Q dental coverage isn't much either.
Yes they treat us like the
Yes they treat us like the chess piece of lowest value, pawns in their money making schemes and then they throw us aside and make us pay for this lousy cafeteria food that I would not feed to my cat. The soda is free though but it has rotted my teeth.
Correct, the same happend in
Correct, the same happend in Hilden, within two days. Thanks to EC
Hope your canteen is better
Hope your canteen is better than the slop fest in Gaithersburg.
Not so fast but perhaps a
Not so fast but perhaps a slow lingering demise after all is said and eventually done thanks to PS. After all we have this wonderful cafe up here in Germantown and the expansion continues without a hitch for the upcoming closure of Gaithersburg facility. What will certainly happen is these folks will be RIF'ed when the move comes around as we shall see scores let go especially with our overhead colleagues but surely they are actively looking elsewhere and can see this "writing on the wall" now scripted for all to see industry wide in capital letters.
Q is now a death valley, not
Q is now a death valley, not in former times, since PS comes into the company hi kicked out the people, not M., a Co-founder, but M. did nothing to stop him, and why????

US tense, morbid, jittery
US tense, morbid, jittery as people are uneasy with the lack of real communication. The discontinuation of social events only adds to the deepening concern. People are leaving as soon as they find another job, no one wants to be in a situation like so many were just before Christmas last year. Basically a self preservation mood.
Any news about the actuall
Any news about the actuall situation ? Phase 2 in Hilden HQ.
And in the USA ?
Unfortunately nothing is
Unfortunately nothing is certain or guaranteed when it comes to employment in this brutal economy. Savor your time with QIAGEN,since perhaps they are a cut above the other Biotech here in MD. County our blessings and of course stay connected and keep your resume camara ready in case your company continues to downsize and transfer theit operations over to Europe which is happening already but will take time. The proverbial "writing is on the wall" for all to see.
Is that supposed to make us
Is that supposed to make us feel more secure in out jobs in MD. I get the distinct feeling that the big move of operations in Gaitersburg to Germantown will eventually be changed to a move to Hilden or close all together. The Digene product line is stagnant.
The impending US layoffs seem
The impending US layoffs seem to be a rumor although we are now directed and told what to do by our selfish and self centered German colleagues who are actively working to dramatically scale down (eliminate?) our US operations to advance their cause. We are a long long way from our self directed and lavish Digene days with these weekly outdoor BBQs that is unfortunately long gone and those that lived through the glory days and golden era have long since been kicked out the back door. Corporate aqusitions and inevitable integration are a B**ch.
Yes and Yes

What is the BUZZ? Tell us
What is the BUZZ? Tell us what is happening. 2011 was a very, very bad year for layoffs here in QIAGEN US Operations Gaithersburg with no less than two rounds knocking out hundreds of worker bees who were actually moving the boulder of progress forward somewhat. Are we set to repeat this chain of events? Cannot wait to get along and out of this malaise of low moral and back biting and rumors and inuendos. This employer is toxic!

Be very afraid, be careful
Be very afraid, be careful and make plans ... the future looks rough for some and very bleak for others as the ax begins it's long sweep..
No wonder people leave.
No wonder people leave. Working conditions are deteriorating, people leave but Qiagen will not hire anyone to fill their positions, leaving a group seriously shorthanded. Overworked people make mistakes, bit making mistakes in unacceptable so a very vicious cycle begins.
Lowest morale ever = lowest
Lowest morale ever = lowest productivity ever. Working at QIAGEN is a like working amongst arrogant bastards.
Watch out....sharks are everywhere!
The CEO is Swiss and tending
The CEO is Swiss and tending to shareholder interests as expected.
Liars are borne of every stripe. If you keep seeing things first through race the really good liars will get past you.
My company previously also
My company previously also had a Chinese CEO and he also lied about everything constantly. He was a pathological liar.
Strange. Butt true.
It has been sad to see how
It has been sad to see how many people are leaving the organization. At the rate morale and productivity has decreased both the CEO and CFO need to see how bad it has become. Wake up guys. The new VPs are simply destroying the NA sites. However on the other hand, souls have been sold by some of the older Management too. Shame on them.
The other game being
The other game being played is each year bonuses and raises are delayed a few months... Last year we got ours bonuses in March this year it is to be June. Employee moral boosters are gone bonues are down raises are lower See a pattern there?
Even sadder and pathetic to
Even sadder and pathetic to the type of management running the company, it was more than likely the "fake" bad or not so good performance review used as an excuse. So after all your hard work and dedication over the years that's what they do to you. This is the time of year they do that before merit raises and bonuses go into effect in April, plus end of quarter.
Sad but true. This is the
Sad but true. This is the trend in corporation nowadays.
That is the pattern. Long
That is the pattern. Long term employees are at risk of being fired simply for being old or handicapped. They can hire 3 fresh out of college for what they paid you plus less costs associated with age related health care. Warning to Q employees over 50 you are next.
Hi all, I find this page this
Hi all, I find this page this morning. I was a german employeer at Qiagen for over 20 years and now fired. Also two colleagues with over 25 years at Q. No,no not the Q from Star Trek
Anymore layoffs in NA?
Anymore layoffs in NA?
Unfortunately the last
Unfortunately the last comment is true - can't keep the sales staff. Incentives and lack of organizational cohesiveness continue to be underlying problems. Recent issues relative to ongoing internal changes and layoffs each year are well known in the field.
They are hiring sales because
They are hiring sales because they can't keep sales people.
Hiring??? saw openings for US
Hiring???
saw openings for US sales on Qiagen website-
it appears they are stable????
this is for the US sales
this is for the US sales team. was there for several years and this is the first time I have heard the US reps are getting this.
Sad. Now are these
Sad. Now are these Mercedes for US or Euro Sales? I am betting Euro because US Q is treated like a step child. Euro benefits exceed what is handed out to US workers. Each year health benefits in US are cut and cost more. Euro vacation time given is much more than US as is maternity leave. Can't blame anyone who can for wanting to jump ship. Those layoffs were made to get rid of dead wood and give bonuses to management. Now the second wave of losses is from those jumping ship. Time will tell if this last round of purging will put the Q ship back in the running or will it continue to take on water and sink. With no viable new products in the works the future does not look all that rosey.
I have already quit. :-)
I have already quit. :-)
Seize your opportunity within Qiagen!
Get out of there then and
Get out of there then and quit your complaining! I kinda like it there and can do without your negativity! Plenty of opportunity for you quiters out there other than Qiagen. Good riddance.
From the inside: Qiagen
From the inside: Qiagen Sucks Ass
take a chill pill- mercedes
take a chill pill- mercedes were given to the sales rep last year as well way before the cuts-
this is from the inside at Q;
this is from the inside at Q; the sales reps are getting Mercedes this year as company cars! i have been with Q sales before so this is news to me as well! What an insult to all those who were laid off during the 10% cut!!!
Bye, Bye North America.
Bye, Bye North America.
That is a scary thought for
That is a scary thought for those working at the G'burg and G'town facilities. Not a good job market to be hunting in if you have no job.
Makes sense. It is must
Makes sense. It is must cheaper to manufacture there. The Gaithersburg/Germantown personnel to support is too expensive and sub-par in expertise by industry standards.
I have heard that even HPV
I have heard that even HPV kits will move to Germany. Sucks
I agree about the potential
I agree about the potential for more consolidation to occur in Germany at the expense of North America. The handwriting is clearly on the wall on that point and more.
Another CEO fucking a moldave
Another CEO fucking a moldave while cruzin.
GD/JG and his gang still
GD/JG and his gang still around? lol time to look for a job
"Just attended the all
"Just attended the all employee meeting...what a joke. I hope he can see that no one believes him" Of course not his nose is so far in the air he can't see those beneath him, the little people mean nothing. He exudes European arrogance toward the US workers.
I have my desk cleared out so when the time comes all I need to do is grab the car keys and my coat and I am outta there.
Hit the nail on the head.
Hit the nail on the head. There is more empty space and productive space in G'burg. So changes are on the ohrizon.. wanna bet more layoffs and moves to Europe. My predictions:
G'burg will be shut down by end of year, Mb manufacturing will be relocated not to Germantown but to Germany. Leaving only US marketing Stateside.
I agree women have no future with Qiagen above the supervisor level. Watch for racial discrimination too, some departments are very obviously stacked.
