Qiagen

Qiagen reported after the close of the market Monday that it will cut between 8 percent and 10 percent of its global workforce in a reorganization intended to improve efficiency and resource allocation.

The wholesale failure of the

The wholesale failure of the Nextgen may explain why PS did all that "house cleaning" of the incompetents last Fall and round bout Christmas. With our new more experienced staff in place and the proper direction of our German colleagues, we should now move along swiftly.

children, let's not fight. Q

children, let's not fight. Q is Q. Just like the CEO said, it is the culture. Don't like it, move on. Good or bad time will tell. It sure helps pay someone mortgage. Whether there bright ppl working for them or not, time will tell. I am sure there was some talents leaked, hopefully the management wise enough to attract some one talents. They do employ good amount of ppl in the md area, and it helps the economy.

plenty to see here, can't

plenty to see here, can't hide

Maybe a couple of small

Maybe a couple of small hicups with the Nextgen chemistry and DCU. Please move along. Nothing to see here!

Nextgen moving along

Nextgen moving along "nicely"? It was supposed to be launched in 2009.

I think we saw 2 different Q2

I think we saw 2 different Q2 results....

I hardly find something depressing in Q2 results...maybe in HPV but overall Qiagen grew nicely.

Please do explain where you see depressing results in Q2..

We do plenty so back off

We do plenty so back off mister. I believe we have the perfect crew here in place at GTB to keep the new product pipeline including Nextgen moving along nicely. I believe the firings and layoffs are way behind us now. By the way we follow the full ISO and CFR regulations here in our development labs and also have a QA group dedicated to the R&D function-and she is real good too!

Question for ya... what

Question for ya... what does Digene R&D do? I have not seen any viable products come out in years, a lot of hiring and firing every 6 months or so. Last contact I had with R&D people just confirmed that they were clueless as to basic good lab techniques so how can they develop anything useable?

No, no lay-off. That is the

No, no lay-off. That is the fun of it. Last year, we fired 10% of the staff and made a great "delayering". Now we resume recruting and promoting. in R&D you have VPs reporting to VPs reporting to VPs.

This company is not growing but have 100 M$ to buy back shares and is making stupid acquisitions. It is called bad management : pressure the cost as much as you can and then wonder what you can do with the cash you saved. In well managed company, this cash would have been invested internally to create growth, but EC of Qiagen have no idea how to generate growth. Their ultimate strategy is to save cost. After that, they are without any idea.

They took Digene, save cost everywhere and did absolutely nothing else : no product launches in 4 years, no growth of the business, no investment anywhere. EC members are just going one little details after the other and ask : how to save more cost next week, how to sell a little more of this product here or there. No strategy, no vision, no long-term plan. It is time to change management in Qiagen

So Q2 results are

So Q2 results are depressing. Not a good sign, so when do the layoffs begin this time? Two weeks before Thanksgiving or the week before Christmas?

These unfair criticisms are

These unfair criticisms are hurtful to me and our R&D staff here at GTB that really do work hard in order to protect the public's health and our pay is not really that great under PS's regime - what goes around comes around and I hope he gets sacked at some future date!

Not to mention a vaccine,

Not to mention a vaccine, perhaps Digene is working on a polio diagnostic test now. PS and DL's folly was Digene.

back up test, not primary

back up test, not primary wasn't that reiterated by the govt in the past year or so. There are reasons for that that Digene's incompetent staff couldn't foresee.

Hire and fire, also in

Hire and fire, also in Germany, but it's written on PS wall. Five years ago it was the same, but 'only 30 employers'. Between X-mas and New Year.PS go and read the novel ANIMAL FARM

As long as woman have

As long as woman have cooters, there will be a need for their HPV test kits so YES former Digene is/was their "Golden Goose". PS just strangled it(us)to death. Aint corporate mergers and acquisitions a B**ch?!

Exactly, from warehouse

Exactly, from warehouse manager to multi millionaire as well as the CFO was in that boat too. No loyalty to the employees who got them there that they allowed Digene management to push aside as threats. Digene golden goose, it was and always will be crap.

Why should PS be Depressed?

Why should PS be Depressed? He has ridden the Qiagen pony to death and has dogged us into a financial collapse taking many talented hard working former colleagues of mine out the front door on their ars. While doing this he has made himself many many million Euros in inflated salary, stock, and executie benefits and will move on to his next corporate victim when this former Digene golden goose is finally stinking dead. We are already there!

Harakiri would be a good

Harakiri would be a good option.

Today our CEO made a

Today our CEO made a presentation of the Q2 results in Germany. he was negative, maybe depressed, totally different from the past. I had felt a sense of despair. I would say that some cruel decisions is in front of him and he has no idea how to avoid them. Maybe a take-over ?

No doubt this insider

No doubt this insider malcontent has their own Smartphone and they do not need the company's desktop to shamefully slam their employer while at work on this "Rumor Mill" . So realistically this may not be possible for the QIAGEN HR folks to somehow trace these daytime bloggers for some kind of comapany retribution.

Then stop reading. See no

Then stop reading. See no evil, hear no evil...

I just read the piece on

I just read the piece on Microsoft downfall in VF http://www.vanityfair.com/online/daily/2012/07/microsoft-downfall-emails... and I see the same fault here. The idea that a high-tech company could be run successfully by MBAs and HR with technocrats under their boot proves itself wrong again and again. The MBAs don't know what the company should do in terms of new products, and the attempts by HR to organize the workforce based on implementation of various stupid management and "team work" ideas from the books always fail.

Yes - the rest of here on the

Yes - the rest of here on the inside find these remarks in poor taste and hope they can track him/her down to ask them to stop this since they appear to be posting on this site behind their computer while still here at work. Should not be too hard for HR to do this?

Wow alot has changed since

Wow alot has changed since the current management deceitfully let go of the people that knew how to get things done and felt threatened them. The culture is negative, unethical, no values - that's called lead by example.

You are the one that needs to

You are the one that needs to give it a rest - bragging about being a slacker and no personal work ethic. Lots of people were laid off who did have a work ethic and bragging about doing nothing is a slap in their face. Grow up, please!

Give it a rest guys! Not an

Give it a rest guys! Not an ideal environment for any kind of job security for us employees but at least it is pretty easy work with not a lot of accountability with the staff of medicre at best managers and so called "leadership". In my support role here in GTB sec floor around the corner from HR, we are asked to do little and have plenty of time throughout the so called "work" day for our own personal business and inter-web play -kinda like stealing their money in a way :) . Planning to stick around for this "free ride" until they may wise up and they ask me to go by by.

Does that not describe most

Does that not describe most management? Most are just taking up space and do little real work. Some sit on their caboose while their department struggles under a full workload with 1/2 staff due to people quitting and management taking 3-4 months to replace those workers who left. Not one word of thanks for putting in extra effort or long hours to make sure that the work got done on time. But that is the Q way, anyone below manager is just disposable and not worthy of recognition.

It has been my experience

It has been my experience interacting with the GTB "Product Implementation Project Managers" (LOL)that these guys and gals are just taking up space on the second floor and spend a lot of time harassing us scientists about silly schedules, gang charts, conf calls, and their favorite pastime Visio. Bunch of folks paid well to chase their own tails and a couple of the gals from what I can see when they are finally leaving my office have a generous cabose to "boot" (prob from sitting on their ars all day long). Just saying.

GTB is looking for another

GTB is looking for another project manager. With no new products and about a dozen of project managers already there at GTB this is kinda funny http://www.qiagen.com/jobs/jobdetail.aspx?JobID=3746&JobLocationID=1

test test test-anyone out

test test test-anyone out there?

I guess you are from

I guess you are from Frederick site, :-)

Not exactly true. In spite of

Not exactly true. In spite of the poor economy, we have a pretty good pipeline of Life Science opportunities here in Maryland for those that want to explore their options. Not all doom and gloom here.

I hope all of you have a

I hope all of you have a good escape plan and a healthy bank account to fall back on. A lot of PhDs work as lab rats or worst flippin burgers.

From where I sit down here on

From where I sit down here on the first floor GTB there aint a whole lot of us R&D lab rats left and the few that remain are keeping one another company with not a lot of protocols left to run. Pretty apparent that my staff are working the phones and networking to escape this malaise before we get the inevitable boot.

R&D what R&D? We

R&D what R&D? We haven't seen anything workable come out from there in years. A lot of huff and about a new test then fizzz it is dropped. Sorry but a company cannot move forward if it cannot produce any new marketable products.

And now, look at this link

And now, look at this link again!!!
Well done PS. Best Manager at Q, for his own pocket. Ha, ha.

Yeah, but JG won't get away

Yeah, but JG won't get away with it at his new gig (Ventana)...I hear that people are already talking, since its been nearly two years and still no tangible results (Veridex>Genprobe>Digene...come on people do we see a pattern of R&D successes here?)

As for me here in the

As for me here in the trenches of GTB's R&D Dept, I have to lay the blame for no new products fully on the shoulders of former Director JA. He barely put in a half day in his office typically leaving for home right after lunch! JG seemed to tolerate this as I suspect over the years they learned to cover for one another’s poor work ethic. The thing about JA's behavior that was the most disturbing was how he relished laying off so so many of my colleagues this time last year and again during the Christmas holidays. Thankfully that layoff sweep at that time took him away from us too as he left his office one last time after lunch never to return again! Unfortunately Medimmune should have done a better job of screening this guy before they brought him aboard this spring. Plenty of bad Karma built up with this guy! Watch out Medi!

JG spent 4 years at G'burg

JG spent 4 years at G'burg and achieved nothing. Now I hear ES is leaving G'burg after 2 years, and she also had achieved nothing. There are no new products, and scientists at G'burg will be the scapegoats, as usual.

I now believe our jobs are in

I now believe our jobs are in jepardy. Plenty to do around here in GTB. Feigning hard work trying to look busy when they continue to pull the plug and abandon most future R&D projects. I believe they are looking for yet another Developemnt Director which will be hard to fill since this position will be eliminated shortly thereafter. Reminds me of the expression "Eyes Wide Shut".

Sad to see so many in

Sad to see so many in pain. I hope all can find a new job and soon

Yes unfortunately for all of

Yes unfortunately for all of us us left hanging here in GTB the writing is on the wall along with all those hallway photos of our illustrious "executive staff". Little hope that any of us left behind here at the old Digene building will survive the upcoming layoffs and get a foot into the GTN facility. Perhaps their days up there are numbered too and the whole dysfunctional lopsided top heavy opoperation will then be housed overseas in Hilden soon ...perhaps too late for any further deck chair shuffling on this floundering Titanic...sigh.

I suggest you get your

I suggest you get your tylenol supply ready for the next round of inevitable layoffs. Qiagen only seems to make money when they lay off large numbers of people. If you think you might be next start looking now because the average time to find a job in this economy is 5 months and up to a year for managers.Look now!

Is it just me or does LH look

Is it just me or does LH look like a gay humpty dumpty?

SA/LH there's a match made in

SA/LH there's a match made in hell. Can't believe dumb and dumber still survive at those ridiculous salaries too.

For full disclosure we should

For full disclosure we should list these "executive leaders" that are looting our K cups as they bolt for home in the early afternoon. Could JG be one of them jonesing for a free caffeine fix back at home? LOL!

K cups ha ha I have

K cups ha ha I have seen some managers walking out the door with whole boxes of them. They are a lot more expensive than a little tylenol.

True that our receptionist

True that our receptionist controls distribution of our drugs prob because some of my colleagues were taking the old "five finger discount" but all you have to do is ask him for a fistfull of the pain meds and he more than complies. So me thinks that this additional level of control was not really put into place as a cost cutting measure. Now when I get the memo from PS that I have to get my toilet paper in individual sheets from the receptionist- then I may reconsider.

ps-don't take my K cups away! - please.

Dude the man made 1.8 million

Dude the man made 1.8 million last year. He's got to look like he's doing something.

Unlimited access to over

Unlimited access to over counter headach meds not any more you have to ask the receptionist for meds. Gotta cut costs somewhere.
