Thank you. Just so you know, there is a lot about the left I don't like either. It's not the same kind of thing because, in general, the extreme left isn't acting out of anger and hatred. Clearly, some of the excesses of the anti-war movement during Viet Nam arose from anger, hatred, and frustration. The problem I tend to have with the extreme left is that too much of what they want to do just isn't realistic. Too much seems to be based on an erroneous notion that if we solve all of man's problems and make everyone happy, the people will only have a good side and there will never again be people who have a bad, evil, nasty, angry side and that would never happen.

I would strongly prefer to have a discussion of issues than a public that just elects people and doesn't care at all about the issues. My biggest problem with the right wing posters here is their hostility and seeming inability to discuss things rationally and calmly and based on some reasonable amount of facts and not re-written history. I've made the plea several times to just tone it down and let's discuss things civilly. It just never happens.

And after long observation of the extreme right wing posts, I am pretty much convinced that they are just a repetition of one or another of the many right wing talking heads. Once they post their latest and greatest, they have an uncanny ability not to be able to respond to comments on their post. In a few cases, I've actually seen cut and paste from other sites. I also suspect that part of their frustration is that they really can't defend their position on their own because the only thing the know is what they hear daily from the right wing gurus. That's why I sometimes use the word 'pathetic' to describe some of the posters here. I have also noticed that there is rarely any comment from people who are conservative, but not reactionary .. people who want to move ahead slowly and cautiously rather than move backwards. The latter are really reactionaries and right now they are dominating the Republican party.

So part of what I do here is to criticize and part to mock some of the really silly or nasty stuff and hopefully get people interested in learning some history, learning to analyze on their own rather than being robotic missionaries, and to continue to try to create an adult, rational conversation rather than a shouting match.

So let me get this straight. All that is needed to understand the Brits is to watch one movie? I never knew that Brits had such a good sense of humour or think of themselves in such a shallow manner. Rather than watching a movie, why not invite people to Britain to see and interact with Brits directly, up close and personal and in real life? If you want to learn about a society or culture, you must actually walk among them. At best, your movie would be a single snapshot and represent the views of its creator.

As far as the Hitler comparison, it is completely bogus. Piers is a commentator who's views you may not like.
