Pfizer as Unamerican as they come

Has avoiding your fair share of taxes by focusing on inversion plans become the new path for Pfizer. Why would current Pfizer employees support his knowing full well it will also lead to US site closures? Instead of doing great harm to the Pfizer company name with such a low class move the Pfizer leaders should be looking more for scientific opportunities that will actually result in new drugs and not just a lower tax rate. What would Charles Pfizer say if he was around to see this disrespectful maneuver in the company he started to bring life saving drugs to the world. They should be ashamed of themselves and I hope US doctors all over remember this when writing their future prescriptions.

hire the Chinese for their

hire the Chinese for their research labs, hide their money offshore, lobbyists have politicians in their back pockets.

What's not "American" about that these days.

Pfizer is as American as

Pfizer is as American as Income Inequality and Net Non-neutrality.
What started as promising entertainment has turned into people selling stuff.
This crass commercialism is an insult to Capitalist Log Cabin Republicans everywhere.
Move on, Trolls.
Nothing to see here.

Go to China if you're looking for philanthropy and altruism.

Avoidance is legal Evasion is

Avoidance is legal
Evasion is illegal

PFE is just trying to find a tax loophole.

Hell, even Apple, Inc. created a "virtual Apple subsidiary" in Ireland to offshore its cash hoard to avoid paying taxes on that money. Congress grilled Steve Jobs about the situation, and IT'S ALL LEGAL. Obviously Congress wasn't pleased about this, but I think Steve mentioned something of the sort "You're Congress, you wrote the laws".

Just about every company that

Just about every company that sells itself manages to find ways to inflate the value of the company. They overestimate the value and progress of things still in R&D, they allow the rosiest forecasts for sales and profit to become the expected norm They lay people off including people critical to future success and show the potential buyers how they are managing cost and then turn around and propagandize those who remain that they are working for a growing company, a successful company, and they should be proud of it.

And it's not just companies. People sell themselves, too. They remind their bosses of all their contributions and extra time they put in, they impress their friends and family with tales of their successes and triumphs in life. Companies are just larger entities so they do things on a bigger scale.

These are things everyone does. And since we love internal conflict, we also self-assess from time to time and call our egotism out for what it is. None of this is terribly strange if you think about it for a little while.

What is really strange is that the buyers fall for it every time. Read through the various threads here to see how many well known companies have purchased some that looked incredibly good at the time and then turned out to be a disaster. How can so many of them be fooled by the sellers? And this one isn't even that bad. Many of the buyouts involve the buyer basically getting into a brand new business which is generally quite different from their existing business even though it might be complementary. Presumably Pfizer knows something about AZ's business. They may close a lot of things down and lay off a lot of people, but they probably won't ruin the entire business.

Keep a good thought, if you can.

AZ has an equally bad culture

AZ has an equally bad culture based on Pascal's acid fuelled dreams about future revenues. 45 Bn? FFS! The only way that will happen is if we get hyperinflation.
Pascal writing down imaginary numbers does constitute evidence for AZ's prosperous independent future.
If Pfizer are a bunch of talentless, moral free, spin obsessed, science loathing cretins then you've found your perfect match in AZ.

I work at Pfizer and went to

I work at Pfizer and went to a Town Hall meeting last week in NY. It was the most depressing, untruthful and arrogant meeting I've ever been to in Pfizer. All profess in increasing trust and culture in the company's is gone now. We are back to getting avoiding real answers and arrogant leader statements. There is nothing exciting about this as they try to spin, this SUCKS for both companies and we know you could care less. Pfizer looks like a job cutting bully to the world now and how should we as emotes be anything but ashamed of that image. Science is dead, but tax loop holes are alive and well. Just when some hope and pride was starting to return, it's back to less than square one and it on Reads watch this time.

Pfizer Unamerican? They dodge

Pfizer Unamerican? They dodge tax, they are morally corrupt, they think nothing of exploiting the vulnerable in order to line their own pockets. Its not possible to be any more American.

American corporate tax rates

American corporate tax rates are among the highest in the world. But this isn't the whole story. If it were, corporations would have a legitimate beef with American tax code. However, America has almost as many tax loopholes, preferences, exclusions, and who knows what else that, effectively, lower tax rates to very low levels. Many of these preferences provide a far greater benefit to large corporations than they do to mom and pop operations. Surprised? Why? Big companies can afford to hire lobbyists to promote their own economic interests whereas the typical small business cannot. The tax breaks for large companies and 'preferred industries' more than pay for the costs of the lobbyists.

There is a catch, however to all of the above. The U.S. Constitution has several clauses that basically reduce to the concept of equal treatment under the law. Thus, it is completely incompatible with the Constitution to allow preferences for anything or for any one. This applies to individual taxes as well. For instance, someone who owns their own home gets to deduct the cost of property taxes whereas a renter, who also pays the cost of property taxes as part of his rent, gets no preference (whereas his landlord does). Thus, one can only conclude that all of the specialized tax breaks and preferences are unconstitutional. The biggest surprise is that this economic unfairness and illegality has not been strongly challenged in American courts. Despite the American claim of being a free society that is the epitome of equality, America is still a country that is dominated by the most wealthy (individuals and corporations) and they have a long way to go to realize the dreams of their Founding Fathers. Despite the American uber-hostility to anything that sounds like socialism, Americans have tolerated socialism for the privileged since its inception and continues to do so up to the present time.

Just some food for thought; not an excuse for a long and ultimately meaningless political argument based on emotion and not facts.

9% of us taxes come from

9% of us taxes come from corporations. So do you think Pfizer is alone in this strategy? Where is the outrage for the rest of the bunch?

But the first to say up front

But the first to say up front American jobs are going to be slashed so they can achieve their tax cut. Hard to believe the billions they make each year just has to increase in every way possible such as moving to another country. Given the backlash they are already getting and AZ isn't even speaking g to them yet, they are looking more foolish and like a weaker company as each day passes. It's called paying your fair share of taxes Pfizer, just like we all do, deal with it, leave AZ alone like they want you to and let your scientists get back to focusing on discovery drugs not on tax loop holes. The Pfizer Leaders have already taken a huge hot on this and it's just starting to blow up here in the US where they are going to be the poster children for screwing Americans for financial gain.

Not the first nor the last

Not the first nor the last company to do it.
