Please post here any news about layoffs and leave the political scene on the other thread.
It's all true. 1700 heads is still minor if you look at all the people Siemens employs worldwide. And by laying off 1700 people, they can now afford good bonuses for the geniuses who did the laying off.
Bizarre? Weird? Perverted? Or just the free enterprise system which has evolved from a great concept for small businesses to a bunch of large multisector businesses like Siemens that can't exist without spin.
Maybe the Siemens motto should be: Siemens, improving the human condition through better spin!
Good spin you got. So where will the 1700 heads be coming from?
layoffs in DX already happened, nothing major coming, some minor adjustments here and there,go back to sleep
ended the year strong, good bonus coming
The thousands strong should join force to negotiate a good package. With sounding campaigne slogans, we can attract lots of press especially in election year no matter who's our next president.
We fought German twice, we'll fight them again.
Our jobs not outsourced to China, but lost to German unions.
American middle class hurt by Bush, destroyed by German.
Any speculation on DPC? How many are even left? My contact there got moved to East coast.
Nov.8th, Siemens will begin announcing which divisions will face layoffs. They already shutdown the solar division (700 layoffs).
Divisions which have lackluster returns on the dollar will face significant cuts. A good example...DX.
We all knew this was coming anyway. Healthcare faces 1600 layoffs.
Ironically, many are looking forward to it.
They want a package.
Is there another round coming on the 8th?
I'm with you. Just give me a package and I'm gone from this nut factory. It's a wonder Siemens has stayed in business all these years. I can't believe the other Divisions are run like DX.
Siemens never should have gotten into the Diagnostics business.
Does being 62 entitle you to a special deal? If so, why?
I'm Now 62, Please offer a package on NOv.8th
Well, safe for now. What happens when Siemens finally shuts down Immulite completely?
Llanberis will be safe, lots of job openings here
Not exactly. After 6 painful years it's time to pack up and move on. Lets see which sites get hit and, if any, finally get shut.
I do know this will not be a prolonged layoff schedule.
Siemens wants all layoffs, in all its sectors, off the books by years end.
Everyone has marked Nov.8th on their calendars.
What a shame. Answers like the ones you expect on November 8 merely kill juicy rumour threads like these.
Finally! November 8th we get some answers.
no brain - no problems
Is the Walpole State Prison still open? Isn't it one of the two maximum security prisons in Massachusetts?
Seems to me that if it's still in operation, the affect of Siemens' facility would have a relatively minor impact on real estate in the area. The DX business has been in that area for over 30 years going back to the Corning days. I doubt the new plants affected more than just a few properties nearby.
new building meant nothing in walpole. Deval was there . That should tell you something. Walpole Foxboro traffic. They want DX filth gone out of their town!!. Having biomed DX hurts any sales in Remax
Zion is a beautiful national park in the US. That's all.
Ignore the stupidity of some people.
I don't think I've ever read a dumber and more callous remark.
Siemens was controlled by Zionists. Look and use your brain
NOVEMBER 8 SIEMENS WILL ANNOUNCE ITS PLANS.
"Earlier this month, Siemens said it would initiate a program to strengthen profitability and efficiency, and would review underperforming operations. It will disclose further details on Nov. 8."
Wall Street Journal, Monday, October 22, 2012.
Siemens today announced they're getting out of Solar Energy and eliminated 600 jobs in that Division.
Remains to be seen where the remaining layoffs of the 1600 in Healthcare will come from.
Mark your calendar.
They have announced now that they closing csp and pv divisions...
Wishful thinking. Ignorant, but definitely wishful.
We will all sleep much better after layoffs are announced, plans are made and life goes on.
DX is in for some major changes. Nope, they won't be pretty but they're the only option Siemens has left for the immediate future.
Enjoy your sleep. Just be ready for changes.
Maybe this poster will get his wish very soon:
"I wish they would just announce the layoffs and locations already. I'm tired of waiting.
Give everyone a timetable and let us get on with our lives."
Best of luck to all - those who go, AND those who stay.
"What everyone wants to know is when the layoffs will be announced."
Meetings were held two weeks ago in Germany.
Currently, layoff files are being created for all impacted personnel. This takes a bit of time.
As with past layoffs you'll have a Mandatory Town Hall and while you're being told, Managment will leave the file on your desk.
Siemens does not want any prolonged layoff schedule anymore. They want the cuts done quickly and off the books.
As will previous layoff schedules you can expect to be informed sometime in November.
Siemens wants all 1600 gone by end of year.
Anyone who thinks DX is propping up Healthcare needs serious help.
IMAGING and MR (no, not the CEO)are the only things helping to keep DX afloat.
What everyone wants to know is when the layoffs will be announced. Any "package" changes and PTO payout.
Any news on the STIP also?
With DX things keep going from bad to worse...to eventual sell off piece by piece.
Get a LIFE on this gorgeous autumn Sunday! Colors are fantastic where I live.
LOOK at our TIME in this LIFE to watch PEOPLE with READER'S DIGESTs noting SPORTS ILLUSTRATED and trying to keep up with the NEWS each WEEK by writing in the WALL STREET JOURNAL and having great NEW YORK TIMES
"Our Time in this Life"?
An old time mixed magazine slogan?
Didn't you like Look Magazine too?
"On the other hand, DX could be propping up all of healthcare (not the most likely scenario)."
Just FYI, but the MR (magnetic resonance, not DX's CEO!) business unit won the top+ award for the best business unit within ALL of Siemens - so take your pick as to what is propping up Siemens Healthcare... :-)
Q: "Wouldn't it be nice if we lived in a world where people could honor and respect one anothers views and beliefs rather than attacking one another for the differences which God Himself created?"
A: Yes, it would. I think we would call this "Heaven on Earth". Would allow us all to live in this life, rather than wait for "Heaven" and a blissful eternity after we die...
If you didn't like "Our Time in the Sun", how about "Our Time in this Life"?
"Healthcare was the star of all the Sectors"
This could be good news ... or not. The devil is in the details. Healthcare could be doing fantastic as an whole, but DX could be lagging. On the other hand, DX could be propping up all of healthcare (not the most likely scenario). Internal Siemens data can provide some insight into the true status of DX now, but so can data from other sources that are indicative of market share of intstruments and reagents. Data like this can be found on things like CAP surveys and tend to be much less subject to financial manipulation than internal company numbers.
I may be a cynic, but I've learned to be very cautious when looking at a snapshot in time of how a company is doing. Siemens has shown an history of over-enthusiasm, rally-round-the-flagpole, rah-rah mentality. I just hope, for the sake of those who remain in Siemens DX, that the good news is actually real this time.
OMG... our time in the Sun? Sorry, but I can't even deal with Florida weather; the Sun would be way too hot for me.
But seriously, I agree with what you said. Faith can do wonders, be it faith in God, faith in something else, or simply faith in onesself. The key is that your particular faith is yours. It's not better or worse than the next person's faith. Believing in one 'relgion' does not make you a better or worse person.
The Third Commandment teaches us not to take God's name in vain. Most people seem to think this has something to do with profanity or cursing. I interpret it quite differently. When I see the phrase 'taking God's name in vain' I focus on the word 'vain. To me, this commandment says that we should not use God's name, or the belief in God for our own personal vanity. It means that it is wrong to say things like 'I know God better than you' or 'I am closer to God', etc. and somehow, this belief or understanding makes me a better human being that you are. This is something that many 'men/women of God' don't get, something many preachers don't understand. Extending the thought of a prohibition of using God's name or a belief in God for personal ego enhancement, is the concept that modesty, rather than vanity is a preferred behavior and that, in the end, we are all equal in the eyes of God and that God expects us to treat one another that way regardless of our beliefs.
Remember, that if God has the powers attributed to Him, he could have just as easily made us all of one belief and one faith. But He didn't, and for good reason. It would be pretty boring if we were all just clones. But the Bible makes it very clear that it is up to God to judge us and not for us to judge one another for our different beliefs, be they religious, political, or just a preference for one sports team over another. When your team wins, it doesn't make you better and when your team loses, it doesn't make you a worse person.
Wouldn't it be nice if we lived in a world where people could honor and respect one anothers views and beliefs rather than attacking one another for the differences which God Himself created?
(My apologies to anyone offended for the use of He when referring to God. I choose to use the common term realizing that some may feel it is sexist. My personal belief is that God possesses no specific gender, but that it might sound rude to refer to God as 'it'.)
What's strange is that at the Siemens leadership conference in Berlin 2 weeks ago, Healthcare was the star of all the Sectors. It seems Agenda 2013 is working, even for DX. The only negative mention I saw on the sound bites was the 3 FDA warning letters at DX.
So, the many posters in this forum are either malcontents, or there is a massive cover-up happening to DX management. I suspect it's some of both. Very few large organizations are able to effectively "cut through" the BS, and even if they do for a short time, it's not sustainable...
DX will only make major changes when there's major shifts in their numbers - so big that they can't financially innovate to make them look better. Is DX at this point, yet?
I'd say faith, hope and love in something bigger than ourselves is THE ONLY THING that can give us a sense of purpose and meaning in our lives. If you live in the "free world", you get to pick the "something bigger" - just choose wisely.
If you are on to something that gives you meaning, suddenly the energy and passion are there to do what it takes to be successful. Everything else will fall into place - including putting food on the table.
But a word of caution - as noted above, choose wisely, since all things come at a price, and you may not recognize what it is until it's too late. Read carefully the literature of the ages to help you understand this: Bible, Koran, Greek mythology, Brother's Grimm, any and all that draw upon the experience of generations of humans and their mistakes and triumphs.
Now is Our Time in the Sun - don't waste it!
Is God hiring? If I lose my job at Siemens, will God pay my bills?
Wouldn't that be the ultimate entitlement? Or do I have to wait until I die before I receive my benefits from God?
Religion can be a great source of comfort and strength, but it hards puts bread on the table.
Poor leadership, incompetent management and the list goes on,......
I don't worry about it as I put my faith in God.
I wish they would just announce the layoffs and locations already. I'm tired of waiting.
Give everyone a timetable and let us get on with our lives.
DX is just one bloody mess no matter how you look at it.
I'm still amazed certain sites are still open considering cost and overall loss of business and new contracts.
How does a company spend over $12B and go from #1 to #4 in six years. Just ask MR and the previous chain of CEO's.
I'd be happy too, but keep looking over your shoulder.
I'd also spruce up the resume.
Well, I for one am happy for getting my bonus. Next week we should hear how we did.
Many had it written into their contract.
We all know nothing is free.
They let go many CAS's in November.
How many more will be gone this year?
Customer Service is a drain on siemens profits and has been cut back drastically.
I have to disagree about the comment on customer service. The integration was a huge mess but that was seen and felt by everyone. Pricing at the time was the issue and that was not a customer service issue.
Customers were receiving free freight for what a year? In issues like this customers complaint about everything. Who knows how much was lost in late billing and wrong pricing and what free freight cost the company?!
Hopefully, now those issues are no more. Plus customer service along with sales is not an easy job. Customer Service is limited by the policies of Siemens and that is not CS fault.
On the other hand, if Siemens had better, more reliable products, service wouldn't be as big a problem as it is. Given the choice, most customers would prefer to limit their contact with service to an annual Christmas card. (Make that 'Seasons Greetings' for the PC freaks).
Customer service in DX?
You must be joking.
Siemens has no understanding about what customer service
means. It is a drag on the profit margin to them.
A large part of siemens still tries to provide customer
service as best as they can, but given the limits siemens
puts on them, it is a losing effort.
Don't think that the customers haven't noticed.
Customer Service or CS is a BU under Healthcare. Headed by TM. It spans across all the other BUs.
Looks like the one who's legally possessed might be back.
Still folks, after 8 years, and I'm not giving him back for anything.
What customer service group are you talking about? Could you be a little more specific?
