Just checking on how things are going since the buyout. Everybody happy so far?
Official: FC closing. It has been announced.
"when is the official news coming out?How sure are you about Austin?"
Austin isn't closing. Carlsbad isn't closing. Grand Island isn't closing. Oyster Point isn't closing. Don't believe a single thing you read here. People post nonsense to get a rise out of you. The only thing that is certain is that Foster City will close.
Oh I think I know what skank you mean, the only difference between her and the Titanic is 2000 men went down on the Titanic. Too bad she didnt take that goofy married bastard she was screwing around with out the door with her.
biofind sucks down again
who da skan
I dont know but at least that skank with the song lyrics tattooed over her tits who worked in logistics at the Frederick site has left. The free clinic was running out of penicillan.
//Keep in mind that very little information conveyed on this website is reliable// makes sense
"when is the official news coming out?How sure are you about Austin?"
Keep in mind that very little information conveyed on this website is reliable. The vast majority of what people say is sheer garbage said only to get folks wound up. Austin, CBD, Oyster Point, GI aren't going anywhere. Probably Frederick as well. The other sites, who knows? Foster City is shutting, that's for certain. Those from FC who are not let go will have to move to either Oyster Point or San Jose.
when is the official news coming out?How sure are you about Austin?
Come on, that list is just BS. Grand Island is not being shut down. It produces a major chunk of the cGMP media that goes into pharmaceutical biologics production. That is simply not moving anywhere.
which sites are closing?
Right on, hell yeah, lets get it own
"news is that synergies are on the cards to lay off duplicate functions across the business"
How exactly is this news? There has been no secret that this would happen, as it happens in every single merger/acquisition.
With as little warning as possible, thats when.
Think Monty Python. Think Spanish Inquisition.
Already begun back in late January. Don't delude yourself into thinking you are safe. 60K+ employees with 70-80 sites. What do you think going to happen.?
When are these layoffs expected to begin?
"I am happy now that my job here is secure. Long live Thermo."
Guess it depends on what site you are working at.
news is that synergies are on the cards to lay off duplicate functions across the business!
I am happy now that my job here is secure. Long live Thermo.
We are in limbo land
I assume Lucifer preceded you into hell, and you're just waiting your turn.
Q4 was good. No benefits stripped (sorry to disappoint you).
We are in limboland
So how'd the merger go? Layoffs? More benefits stripped? How was q4 for LT?
The rumor circulating for quite some time is that the deal will close on or around Jan 14th. Not sure whether or not it's substantiated, but that date has been repeated so often many people take it as a truth.
have i missed something, Jan 14th? Whats happening then?
Any news regarding Jan 14th.?
Preposterous. Makes 100 million a year with less than 100 employees.
Thermo are recruiting for cell culture products UK
No RIF b4 year end, but will close some time in 2014.
What about Bedford?
"worried about the coming layoffs- that too right before Christmas"
There is no RIF at GI before Christmas (or any time soon thereafter). Source? I can't tell you, obviously. Enjoy your holiday and don't worry about something that isn't there. There may be targeted RIFs down the line, but nothing imminent.
What kind of redundancy will there be in G.I. after the divestiture of HyClone? The redundancy IS the HyClone business, which is being divested. The reduction in headcount due to redundancy will be the personnel at HyClone, who will go to a new company. There could be some small RIF in GI from HR, IT or Finance, but it's pretty clear that the Gibco business in general will emerge intact. What else is at GI (other than the cell culture/Gibco bra nd) that is susceptible to downsizing?
Layoffs still will happen due to redundancy no matter the businesses remain.
Then the people at Gibco must be retarded or illiterate, because it has already been announced in the media that TMO is selling Hyclone and the Gibco brand will be retained.
The morale is really down at Gibco- they are worried about the coming layoffs- that too right before Christmas
I initiated a collaboration with one of leading kissass companies in Singapore. Now, they are trying to adopt our lips to fit their buttocks This collaboration will have direct impact on the sales of industrial strength knee pads company wide.
I initiated a collaboration with one of leading assay companies in Singapore. Now, they are trying to adopt to our real-time PCRs. This collaboration will have direct impact on the bottom line.
I am quite proud of myself and expect to get promoted soon
What exactly is a "real rumor"? Rumors are by definition unverified and therefore "not real".
Y'all funny! Any real rumours or news? not nonsense bigotry and name calling please.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"The vultures who troll this site will have to wait a while to get their thrills. They should keep the Kleenex at the ready though, because they'll be so backed up they'll jizz right away when they learn that some poor folks will lose their jobs."
Some, not all do deserve to lose their jobs, like those who spend their work day stabbing fellow coworkers in the back to get ahead. To hell with the Kleenex I'll need half a dozen rolls of Bounty paper towels to handle my "excitement".
Singapore site will never be closed. PCRs, including real-time PCRs, and ion torrent are made here.
The software department in Singapore just got expanded. Instead of one software department, we have two software department here. We are expanding...expanding...and expanding.
I'm sure that happens at other companies, but that's not how it happens at LTC. Again, I've been involved with site closures at LTC and the process is not like what you described. Look, it's too early for any decisions on site closures to be firm anyhow. If sites are closed, it won't happen right away. The vultures who troll this site will have to wait a while to get their thrills. They should keep the Kleenex at the ready though, because they'll be so backed up they'll jizz right away when they learn that some poor folks will lose their jobs.
Maybe in the majority of cases, but I once worked for another biotech company who planned to close the site I worked at down and relocate it. They apparently had no plans to tell us any time soon but were forced to do so when the local newspaper mentioned it in a story. So the company had to offer up retention bonuses on top of severance packages to keep employees from quitting too soon. So it would be in TMO's best interest to keep any plans quiet as long as possible.
No, I've been involved in site closure and that's not how it happens. Announcements don't only concern site closures. They can take many forms, and can about many things. Again, this comment just illustrates how fixated folks are on shutting down the Frederick site.
If they were planning to close a particular site, do you actually think they would announce it to far in advance? TMO wouldnt want a mass stampede for the door by employees if they announced a site closing too soon. Wouldnt surprise me if people showed up to work one day and found the doors padlocked.
"So you have no credible information, just conjecture and BS."
Other than on this site, nothing has been announced about Frederick. There are folks here who get giddy at the possibility Frederick will close, but other than this site, nobody is saying this will happen. Regarding the Grand Island site, no official announcement has been made as to the fate of site itself, but it's a pretty safe bet that it will survive (and probably thrive) given that TMO has officially announced that it will divest the HyClone business. In fact, in the areas of cell culture media, RNAi and magnetic beads, the LTC brand will be the survivor, and HyClone, Dharmacon and Sera-Mag will be divested (presumably in favor of Gibco, Ambion and Dynal).
