The infallible Danaher Business System is driving Beckman associates away in droves. The DBS metric, retention of top performers, will soon have no top performers to measure.
Experienced associates have all been "leveled", morale is at an all-time low as Danaher shows it places no value on scientific knowledge and experience.
Danaher's core values are nothing but empty phrases. "Associates are our most valued assets." "We're passionate about retaining, developing and recruiting the best talent available."
What did Danaher actually buy - soon there will be nothing but empty facilities. The talent has left the building.

Too Funny. Why do you think
Too Funny. Why do you think competitors are hiring dead wood. They are actually hiring the best and danaher is keeping people who are dumb as a stone.
Competitors actually interview people they hire which is more then danaher did coming in. They just kept Beckman yes men and women. What a mess. Keep drinking the kool-aid
Doy Danaher is not keeping
Doy Danaher is not keeping deadwood. They are experts at getting blood from a stone. So if it troubles deadwood so be it.DBS is the way!!!
Danaher is getting desperate
Danaher is getting desperate with their staff revolving door. Titanic and bci share the same fate.

Yep, chr is cheep rond that a wase."
"Well, take a breath then read this. --- Indianapolis Star June 25th, 2012
The Indianapolis area ranks second only to that housing bustville of Las Vegas in the government's measure of homeownership declines over the past five years.
Since 2006, according to new Census Bureau data, homeownership rates have fallen 13.5 percent in the Indianapolis area, a drop surpassed only by Nevada's gambling mecca, whose housing woes have become as infamous as its 24-hour slots."
Do you have a current status
Do you have a current status update for the BEC - IL partnership? I though IL was still looking for a bigger payday for the sale of its self.
It will be interesting to see
It will be interesting to see how many talented employee Beckman loses to IL.
Some BCI folks are so brain washed they think IL will be in trouble! Very funny. Who sold to customers? Beckman. Who is losing the little respect they still had fom customers.? Beckman.
Who will lose more talented employee to IL? Beckman. RIP Beckman Coulter
Dude! No one in or out of BEC
Dude!
No one in or out of BEC gives a rats butt about the survey!
The East Zone spoke thru the
The East Zone spoke thru the survey loud and clear. Without the survey people do not speak up at BEC for fear of retaliation. The survey gave people the opportunity to speak up and TB received the lowest scores and is not well thought of. She was rated by the East Zone for scores in the low 30's for Trust, Communication, Vision, and Leadership. TB was rated in the low 20's for effective management. The bottom line is TB has hired poor managers just like herself. The survey (i.e the people/employees) have spoken. Read it yourself if you are still employed.
"is DHR actually doing
"is DHR actually doing anything to give skilled professionals incentive to stay"
Honestly with regard to BEC they don't care. DHR views the current workforce as reasonably talented but disposable as DHR are in the processing of retooling the entire company. (If you work for any of DHR's companies at any level arn't you somewhat disposable anyway Mr./Ms. Associate?)
Much of the pre DHR products won't be around by 2016. Most of products were old when DHR came into the picture anyway.
Also many of non salaried employees from the pre S.G. era (2005) won't be around by 2016. My guess is that less than 20%.
If you a bean counter its a beautiful thing!
Sorry to burst your bubble,
Sorry to burst your bubble, "sunny optimistic disposition" is still here. And to further my point, received an inquiry last night wanting to know if I had any suitable candidates for a FSE position in Chicago. And then of all things, got a phone call wondering if I know of someone in the Southeastern U.S. from a direct competitor.
Go ahead, beat yourself up and call me a troll, strawman, whatever, doesn't faze me in the least.
Regarding DHR incentive....they have it down to a true science about how far they can push a given individual. Given that, there can't be too much incentive to stick around.
That sunny optimistic
That sunny optimistic disposition sure disappeared fast! Quickest way to expose a poser or a troll is to use facts that support your position and push them for facts in return. The genuine article recognizes your point and responds with evidence that supports theirs. Since a poser's got nothing but the message that they're selling they always go negative and personal when challenged for hard facts. When you don't address the insult they just escalate. It's all they've got left and frankly its boring.
To get back to the point, with all the complaining from technical folks is DHR actually doing anything to give skilled professionals incentive to stay or are they just relying on the job market? It isn't hard to motivate them you just have to understand how they think.
It's even worse how Danaher
It's even worse how Danaher is treating their hemostasis folks...
"Unsubstantiated and
"Unsubstantiated and unverifiable anecdotal claims, assuming facts that are not in evidence plus an ad hominem attack dressed up as a strawman"
Sure, and watch out for the black helicopters hovering above your house.
Hopeless. Sad. No future.
Unsubstantiated and
Unsubstantiated and unverifiable anecdotal claims, assuming facts that are not in evidence plus an ad hominem attack dressed up as a strawman
That is some pretty weak sauce.
Don't fit your imaginary profile but admit that my insistence that 1=1 no matter how many folks believe that it really can equal 2 if we all think happy thoughts doesn't go over well with fuzzy minded types. You know, the ones that gave bec the troponin problem? Maybe you've read about it.
Try more hard facts and less foaming at the mouth.
"we call this one "Earth" On
"we call this one "Earth"
On earth we try not to wallow in self pity because no good will come of it. The sun will come up tomorrow. Just a thought but maybe your negative outlook is more of a hindrance to you than the economy, Sparky.
"seriously what do empty
"seriously what do empty phrases like "willing to facilitate change" even mean?
sounds like duckspeak for happy to go from senior engineer to min wage do you want fries with that"
No...it comes from someone that was laid off and then found another position within a month. Better yet, making around 40% more than previously. And this all came down during a period with >10% unemployment.
Your problem? It's evident that you have a huge chip on your shoulder and are totally unwilling to "facilitate change"; as in changing your negative outlook and pessimistic view of life in general. In other words, you are someone that an employer would not hire, because you carry your negativity with you like a chump. Regardless, I am certain you will continue making the same sad mistake, blaming BCI and DBS for your current predicament.
"sounds like duckspeak for
"sounds like duckspeak for happy to go from senior engineer to min wage do you want fries with that"
"You may have to take a pay cut ..."
called it right
and what if that pay cut doesnt affect just me, sparky?
what planet are you from exactly
we call this one "Earth"
"what are the chances that
"what are the chances that someone else will fit the minimum requirements and work cheaper"
You may have to take a pay cut to start with. But remember its about your life five or ten years from now. Yes there are risks involved. You may not land into your 'best life job' after just one job change. But the risk of being unfulfilled/unhappy the rest of your life at your current job needs to be weighed in. Five years turns in ten before you know it. Ten will turn into twenty.
Look at those x coworkers who were shown the door last year through no fault of their own. I hope they were happy working there the last 10, 15, or 20 years. What a waste of their lives if they weren't.
Ultimately you will have to judge yourself. Be kind to yourself, consider change to be no more challenging and every bit as rewarding as leaving high school or collage was.
"There are multiple
"There are multiple opportunities out there for those that are talented and motivated"
citation please?
every one of those opportunities has a couple hundred people chasing it
what are the chances that someone else will fit the minimum requirements and work cheaper?
fact is that now the average time for a skilled professional to actually land a new job is over 8 months
many talented and very motivated folks have been looking for two years or more
job seekers are being advised to dumb down resumes so that they will even be considered
this is real life not hr, management or Oprah Winfrey
wishful thinking, buzzwords and controlling the message dont actually change reality
it just shoves what you dont want to look at under a rug so you can pretend it isnt there
seriously what do empty phrases like "willing to facilitate change" even mean?
sounds like duckspeak for happy to go from senior engineer to min wage do you want fries with that
"where would they go if they
"where would they go if they were unhappy?"
There are multiple opportunities out there for those that are talented and motivated to leave. Again, the sun does not revolve around DBS and BCI.
My suggestion...take a week of vacation and dedicate yourself to finding a new position. Contact recruiters, ask customers and friends for suggestions, pull out all of the stops to find a suitable opening. The only limitation is this inane belief that there is nothing out there....nothing. Well, NOTHING could be further from the truth. There are plenty of opps out there for those that are willing to facilitate change. In closing, it's definitely a bad choice to place those restrictive limitations on yourself.
"People must be happy or they
"People must be happy or they would have left by now."
where would they go if they were unhappy?
The only survey that matters
The only survey that matters is the bottom line. You could have a 5% survey average and get promoted if you're pulling in the money. Anyway the management at BEC is being micromanaged DHR. So really DHR is to blame if things get rough. It is their money on the line.
Getting back to the point - Talent Retention.
Looks like things have settled down. People must be happy or they would have left by now. Good to know management built good teams.
TB is effective.She is
TB is effective. She is straightforward and some people dont like it.The surveys are just a forum for griping. The Kool Aide is for the sheep that are to afraid to speak up except on surveys.TB should be running Danaher!!! I dont work at Danaher but their stock needs to drop so I can buy some.TB for president!
Somebody has been drinking
Somebody has been drinking the TB Kool-aid. TB is one of the worst managers Beckman has hired. She is not very effective except in this posters eyes. The Engagement Survey produced results from the entire East Zone of the company rating her below 30% on most all categories. I guess the whole East Zone (East Coast) was wrong. She could not stay and compete on the Diagnostics side of the business. Most employees had lost respect, but were afraid to speak up except thru the Engagement Survey. The Survey has spoken. Finish your TB Kool-aid.
"Only associates left tell em
"Only associates left tell em what they wanna hear or stay quiet. "
Got that right!
Which makes one wonder if DHR cares more about trying to give the appearance that things are ok than actually putting BEC on back on track. Could a resale be around the corner?
And why is the blue clown T.J. still so involved?
Bad decision = fired so cant
Bad decision = fired so cant be wrong about anything. Everything is ok cuz it has to be. Only associates left tell em what they wanna hear or stay quiet. It was a cultural thing before dhr came in and is something DBS is supposed to get rid of.
Wow. It's unbelievable how
Wow. It's unbelievable how much denial there is in the danaher Beckman management. Look at your business . It's sinking faster then the titanic. They are like politician and government so disconnected fom what is going on out there in the field.
"Why is everyone knocking TB
"Why is everyone knocking TB she is an effective leader. Those surveys aren't worth the time. Just a chance for people to gripe! TB knows her stuff,so leave her alone."
I agree. Let that fine woman do her job. Your also right about the survey. Its only purpose is to weed out the malcontents. That's why they make the surveys traceable.
Why is everyone knocking TB
Why is everyone knocking TB she is an effective leader. Those surveys aren't worth the time.Just a chance for people to gripe!TB knows her stuff,so leave her alone.
TB could not compete on
TB could not compete on diagnostics side of business. TB jumped to life sciences. Her peers thought very little of her in the engagement survey. Lowest scores do all management team. Her peers have spoken loud and clear. A very poor leader for LS. DHR take notice and perform your magic talent rejection, in this case, WARRENTED,
"She is nothing but a butt
"She is nothing but a butt kissing MBA"
Job qualification #1
Well it must be time to get
Well it must be time to get rid of TB. She is nothing but a butt kissing MBA who knows zip about life sciences. What a joke of a leader. Her ratings under the employee engagement survey were less than 30% by her peers. Time for DHR to take notice of what little she brings to the party. Time to vacate this place and get better products to sell with better leadership.
Come on I have been there.
Come on I have been there. Danaher didn't interview people. They let the Beckman managers choose who to promote So if they were bad as you say then danaher is s stupid by letting them choose who stays and go. I lived several purchase and merger before and the new owner always evaluated the new employees. Not that with danaher.
And in Canada I can tell you managers are ALL yes men or women
Work longer hours will you...
Work longer hours will you... I dare you to say how much longer you expert those hours to be! A normal day here is a 16 hr day!
Why is everyone knocking
Why is everyone knocking Danaher?I work for Danaher and its a good company. It was Beckman that screwed up otherwise we wouldn't own Beckman now.DBS will straighten out all the problems you guys created with an atmosphere of "yes men".DBS eliminates all the butt kissing for cold hard facts.Danaher promotes from within and its all based strictly on merit. There is no BSing here.So dont be crybaby doys.Just drink the kool aid.
a young sales rep from one of
a young sales rep from one of the competitors (Roche, Bayer, Abbott, etc.)will do a better job and understand the competitive products much better, be willing to work longer hours, will be motivated, etc., etc.
You thiink it takes only 6 to
You thiink it takes only 6 to 18 months to be a proficient sales rep? If danaher thinks that it has no clue on how complex of a sale diagnostic has become. The truth is danaher and Beckman is oing down whatever kook aid you are drinking.
True judges are customers and they think danaher sucks
HP is an excellent example.
HP is an excellent example. No innovative products. Financials in the toilet. Stock price circling the drain. Looking at massive layoffs to keep things afloat long enough for the CEO to coast for a few years before taking the golden parachute while their competition eats their lunch. Guess it depends on what your definition of success is. Or what your goals are.
Look at what happened at HP,
Look at what happened at HP, if you want "life-balance" your are likely too old, too expensive, and less productive short to long term- and goodbye job. Word to the wise, "you have to be able to compete not only with the best workers in a global economy, but the high potential (and inexpensive) young people who will pick up the skills of an older worker in 6 - 18 months".
This is the reality of the new job market, deny this at your own peril.
[...they kept a bunch that do
[...they kept a bunch that do nothing but hold conference calls as they have no idea what's going on as they have no hard skills.]
Since everyone with hard skills is leaving (voluntarily or involuntarily), what will the conference-callers talk about with no work being done? Empty-headed blowhards can only discuss their "strategies" for so long before Danaher notices that it's all hot air.
They discuss what they would do if they had the talent available. But the talent has either left or are doing CAPAs, so nothing new gets done.

You couldn't have said that
You couldn't have said that better. There was no formula or thought put into who was let go. We were told it was the bottom 10%, but that isn't true. It was an axe murderer gone wild. A lot of very skilled people that produced and got things done were let go while they kept a bunch that do nothing but hold conference calls as they have no idea what's going on as they have no hard skills. So, for those left, with all the micromanagement and gap filling, it is more similar to having your workload tripled.
'don't begrudge having a
'don't begrudge having a laid-off ex-employee getting a position with a competitor and doing significantly better than before'
a big part of the message that was fed to the ones that werent fired was that who got the axe were incompetent lazy poor performers dragging the company down
your success afterwards says this wasnt the case so you get this kind of defensive reaction
youd think theyd figure it out who got picked to get the boot when getting rid of only ten perc or so had a huge impact on there workload
says a lot about who got kept
My layoff from Beckman
My layoff from Beckman Coulter was the absolute best thing to happen in my career path...I am probably the happiest I have ever been in my current position with a direct competitor. And it's definitely not about "getting back at BCI", although I am sure that some of my former colleagues feel that way. If Danaher Business Systems has layoffs as part of an overall strategy at the beginning of an acquisition, then more power to them. However, don't begrudge having a laid-off ex-employee getting a position with a competitor and doing significantly better than before. The sun certainly doesn't revolve around BCI and DBS.
There are a lot of great people within the BCI organization...for those that truly wish to get out and test the waters, the time has never been better. Don't worry about what the media and overall naysayers would have you believe, they have their own agendas. The work-life balance thing is paramount, and it certainly wasn't happening for me in my previous position, trust me.
Yeah but they have lots of
Yeah but they have lots of good, clean ,CHEAP water. Labor is cheap and also is operating costs.
Thats how they sound in
Thats how they sound in Kentuck!
BCI/DHR - Cannot attract
BCI/DHR - Cannot attract successful Diag sales personnel to replace the high performing individuals that have left. Love to hear from just one that left BCI and regrets the decision.
Even a good majority of CLP's have bolted.

I heard kentucky may be consolidated in Indy in 2013.
Danaher should gut the BC
Danaher should gut the BC Danvers MA site. It's chock full of talent free, Agencourt leftovers and other nasties (with attitudes) usually found at the back of the fridge. I temped there and couldn't get out fast enough. Some good apples but the tree has worms!
