The main reason BD has been so unbelievably successful is because they don't hesitate to eliminate under-performing employees.

BD has denied unemployment compensation to many employees. All they need to do is say the LAY-OFF was due to "cause", and they can keep their insurance rates low

Unemployment depends on your state and how you were separated from the company. Some states do not permit concurrent unemployment with severance and you need to wait until the time runs out. Fortunately, I do not live in one of those states!!

BD should know by now that its not worth their lawyers' time to have to fight the money disputes after the dismal lay off packages. Give them a decent package and they will go away without the legal battles. BD may be assuming that they will ride off into the sunset without the battle. Well they may be wrong - at their expense. Cheap - cheap - cheap. (while the leaders make millions as we speak)

its common for large companies to get negative stuff on record on people targeted for layoff, especially if there senior level folks with good track records
its why every evaluation has a part that isnt based on documented performance
basically a tool used to pressure folks into leaving on there own and if they dont into signing a severance agreement
horrible morally but since serfs arent really people just labor units its OK
even with that there other large companies that tried this gag and learned not to by getting bit hard
local fair labor trade and practices board will be all up in a companies bizness if a big chunk of there work force is fired for cause at the same time but people have to file complaints and it can take a while

How is BD trying to block people from using unemployment insurance? Companies dont give it as an option. Its offered by state governments by fed mandate. A company might not tell laid off people about it but there wouldnt be much of a point. Everyone knows somebody whose used it by now.
