Anyone hear any buzz about when this will begin?
Very quite the past couple of weeks. With performance reviews due the 20th the next round, just like last year, will not happen until later this month or early in February.
I am hearing a rumor regarding a possible 01/19/12 layoff. This would be before the scheduled "conference call" on 01/25/12 to report the 4th quarter earnings of 2011.
Anything new regarding the upcoming year?
same old same old
ADD all employee meeting today. What will they say?
If I didn't read the company name, I would think this thread is about Pfizer. Sad state of affairs. It must be the "Stupidity Flu" going around the big Pharma world. No cure in sight either.
One thing where Pfizer has got you guys beat all to hell is we've got Preparation-H and Chapstick! Think of the possibilities! Butt kissing with world-class endurance! If we had only kept Listerine, we could've released the complete, "Executive Hygiene Pack"! Now THAT is SCIENCE!
Good luck Abbott employees.
Retirement Healthcare? Have you figured out what "retirement healthcare" will be if you utilize the Abbott Retirement Healthcare Plan? Ah, welcome to the real world! It isn't cheap, and in fact you can likely source it cheaper in other places, especially if you have a spouse that is still working, etc. It isn't droplets from Abbott Heaven! If you are holding on for that little benefit alone you may be very disappointed, and you may want to get accurate numbers before chancing a loss of retirement benefits (or substantual change) should another spin off or sell off occur. Bottom line.... If you have an opportunity...move on forward from Abbottabad. At this point, if elgible for retirement- scoot!
Q: Trust? (MW)How far can you throw him?
A: You couldn't get past his armed bodyguards.
Miles White can't be trusted, the Board of Directors can't be trusted! Get out while you can!
The big question in regard to the split. Will Abbott do away with retirment health care? It seems to me, benifits will be cut, just after both companies are divorced. Get out if you can, lock in your retirement before it happens.
So is the next one January or not?
In fact, after the Hospira spinoff, I predicted that the company would be shrunk to be "lean and mean" and end up being bought out. Now it looks like it may be easier to do after the company splits up into 2 almost equal parts. It will be easier to purchase by two other companies rather than one. To a large stockholder, "two halves" may be greater that the "whole" when it comes to a buyout.
To all the non believers I told this would happen. Get out while the getting's good. Miles will totally destroy this company for the sake of profit and padding his pocket.
Soon everything will be outsourced.
>The Santa Clara Hematology site was informed today that there will be a reduction of force in 2012 and there is plans to outsource manufacturing of the instruments and reagents.
Yes Abbott has announced a Layaway Layoff Plan.
> Seems to me the 'fat' that is left is the 'good ol boy/gal' click ... hope you enjoy the ride when your number finally comes up.
You must be at some remote site. There is none of this in Lake County
ROW to Delkenheim already announced. Flextronics to Singapoer already announced. North America undecided but probably to Longford Ireland.
abh bass com
Let the spin offs begin!!! Miles will not stop till Abbott as we know it is a thing of the past.
Manufacturing Will be a spin off ? How they can transfert haematology techno to sub contractor without knowledge ?
Abbott to Separate into Two Leading, Publicly Traded Companies........ well it happened, just not the way anyony here expected it to.
To quote my deceased Grandfather, "What means this?"
A spin off? That sounds great! Along with higher food and fuel prices, why not spin off? I can't wait to see my pension shrink to nothing; not to mention the abbott stock I alraeady own! Put your food trays in the up and locked position, this is going to be a bumpy landing! Oh, yeah, by the way, the FDA will be at the front door soon since they want to see all compliance met before the big spin off!
It all comes down to what "return" of investment money Abbott is getting back from the division. When HPD was spun off, I believe the employees retirement funds were turned over to the new spin off Hospira, and that money helped finance the upstart of the new company. Could it happen again? No doubt. But what cost cutting proceedures Newco takes would be up in the air. And I agree, ADD is being seperated for some reason.... spinoff, selloff, or relocation overseas?
No knowledge of "spin off" but we were told ADD was not for sale. They did not say "no spin off". You are blind if you can't see what is happening. ADD is being segregated from Abt. Lab. Something big is going to happen next year! I pray we do not loose our retirement benefits we have earned.
How reliable is the spin off rumour? Kind of concerning....
A spin-off is coming.
Agreed. The current CEO's arrogance with the FDA is what got ADD in the consent decree.
All I can say is I was RIF'ed and it was the happiest day in my life. Abbott in the 1980's was a Great place to work. Now with the current board of directors and CEO, it's not a Great place anymore. Abbott will soon be nothing but a United States Company Name on all foreign products, if it's not already. If Dr. Abbott were alive he'ed fire them all, starting with the CEO.
Good one! Let's just say "HDD".
Hospira diagnostics division
Fat being trimmed? Having been impacted by a previous ADD RIF, I resent your comment! I have always been a creative and productive employee. Seems to me the 'fat' that is left is the 'good ol boy/gal' click ... hope you enjoy the ride when your number finally comes up.
Abbott Laboratories plans 160 jobs cuts from diagnostic unit by end of 2012
http://www.therepublic.com/view/story/0 ... -Job-Cuts/
WASHINGTON — Abbott Laboratories will eliminate 160 jobs from its diagnostic division as part of a multiyear effort to cut costs and boost revenue for the business.
The company, based in North Chicago, Ill., notified employees Wednesday that it would cut 150 manufacturing positions from its Santa Clara, Calif., location by the end of 2012. The work will be outsourced to contractors. The action does not affect other employees at the site who work in research and development and sales and marketing. Ten more positions will be eliminated at the diagnostic business' headquarters in Lake County, Ill., a company spokeswoman stated in an email.
Abbott has approximately 90,000 employees around the world.
The cuts are part of a 2008 plan to eliminate 1,000 jobs from the diagnostic unit, which sells blood and urine tests used to diagnose diseases and medical conditions. Diagnostics contributed $3.8 billion, or nearly 11 percent, of Abbott's $35 billion in sales last year. The company also markets a variety of prescription drugs, nutritionals and medical devices.
The company's stock rose 30 cents to $51.22 in midday trading.
More fat being trimmed before we are sold off. Next year should be a real shaker. Hope we can hold onto our benifits when this all ends. What a ride it's been!
it is confirmed, hematology manufacturing will close shop by end of next year.
Whats wrong with reading this? I find the thread interesting, both the correct and incorrect opinions.
Then why are you here reading this!
ADD layoffs hit yesterday, September 14. Approx 130, from Dallas and LC. Its now a reality and more LO to follow. I work in L&D and many people surrounding me got hit. Very gray moods here today
The Santa Clara Hematology site was informed today that there will be a reduction of force in 2012 and there is plans to outsource manufacturing of the instruments and reagents.
The Dallas Site laid off 165 employees today.
Morale at an all time low
What happened to the big yuppie plan to move all the diognostics to Ireland and Germany? The Euro not doing so well? Poor implementation of an already bad plan? Too much Euro spent on compliance with both the ISO and FDA? Miles will not be happy with this bad plan. Poor management ran the division into the ground. Lack of long term planning and direction. Just short term planning. I never hear a plan from Abbott management for 5 years out, 10 years out. All I hear is where we will be in the next 90 days. 90 days! What the hell is that kind of planning? Short term planning "only" is not a way to run any business. I hope the yuppie management is the first to go. Good luck to everyone in ADD.
Yeah, RELAX! You'll get layed off sooner or later!
Dallas layoffs 9-15-11
relax! no layoffs until next year...
No layoff today; as predicted?????????
I'm personally impressed that, although you believe the crap posted here, you know how to use a calendar.
8-15-11? Back to the future?
Dallas Site layoffs for sure. Don't know about the rest MW plans for 3rd partying out what's left of Abbott.
Next Layoffs 9-8-11 or 8-15-11. Just pick a date. Odds are it will be the 8th.
