Company wide wage increases

Company wide wage increases are all based on the 3.0 average number and, when employees in a department are evaluated, the average performance rating must come out very close to 3. In other words, if a particularly good employee is going to be given a 4 rating, some other poor slob has to be rated a 2 (even if he /she totally doesn't deserve it). Also, managers, especially new managers, often have been told to re-do all of their ratings because the average came out too high. What a lovely dysfunctional system!

Well said. BioRad turned out to be a place that encourage employees to show off their dark sides.
For most folks, the chrismtas gift scene is a ritual to show "respect" to bosses. For smaller portion of folks, special talents such as Sex (such as the story or the SELDI Lady man with these SELDI ladies), sports buddy, etc. are used to "move up".

At Bio-Rad it is not hard work or doing a good job that helps people move up. It is kissing the proper a$$ on the mouth plus being able to stay there for many years despite a toxic company culture that looks for people who do not offer original ideas.

Clearly you don't understand the difference between Frost & Sullivan's practice of targeting companies for awards and then charging the winner for the right to mention their "award" and an independent survey of 6,000 scientific customer by Bioinfo who make the data available to all for further analysis.

Absolutely these things, as well as the Frost and Sullivan picks are total bogus, I don't even bother reading what and who was nominated. Some of these survey and market research firms are worthless, but if you are a desperate manager, they do offer some consolation, which makes you buy more bogus reports. This is not only true for Bio-Rad, but all vendors in this market. In the age of Yelp and online reviews, these things will thankfully disappear.
