Bio-Rad LSG: Why doesn't anyone here talk about it?

Have they become that irrelevant in the industry, or are they that perfect?

"I tend to agree with the

"I tend to agree with the first post.....
Hey moron - click on the little button that takes the stock history for the last 5 days and the loss is 1%/day. Do the math!"

Bio-Rad stock goes up and down with regularity (it was at $120/share a while ago and dropped down to $90). That is a big drop... not 5%. It is moronic to look at stock performance over 1 week and make a judgement. Over the month, the stock is down 1.3% (Qiagen - down 5.7%; Life Tech down 3.1%; Agilent down 2.4%; ). By your characterization, the entire industry is tanking and we should all get jobs building houses (housing starts are WAY up).

The Bio Rad real time instrument look good, however, the technology inside is dated, only thing thing it has going is easy to use software, however, rubbish in, rubbish out ;)

Free tip: be a "yes sir". It works great in GXD.

Norman should be smart enough to predict the outcome of buying Quanta life.
Is it possible that it's part of the plot of him to force other family members agree on selling BioRad?

Why is it so hard to apply

Why is it so hard to apply for a job in another department ?

It is not. If you're finding barriers it's because the department you want to get into doesn't want you.

Kill yourself or go work at

Kill yourself or go work at Life, not sure which is worse.

Are you talking about BCI

Are you talking about BCI Miami HR and Management. or they went to the same school of leadershiit

How to deal with a hostile

organization at all.

"Then there are a couple of

"Then there are a couple of clueless and deadbeat managers, who only care about themselves and will throw their reps under the bus to protect their own asses."

This has always been a part of Biorad's management culture, but this year it won't be as effective for these deadwood managers because that approach only works as long as there is a significant portion of the force that is performing well to compare to. It's hard to throw 'reps under the bus' when all of NASD is marching to Bataan right now.

Those QuantaLife guys made a killing.

"Then there are a couple of

Do you mean eastern area manager JL?

He'd be at the top of a very long list.

This culture of "feedback" at

This culture of "feedback" at Bio-Rad is a bunch of bullshit. If they really care about what the employees think, then they should ask the field reps what they think about their managers and people in marketing. ISO team is a joke...they put a bunch of idiots who have no idea and no understanding of the business. No wonder why Bio-Rad failed along with a bunch of products! Then there are a couple of clueless and deadbeat managers, who only care about themselves and will throw their reps under the bus to protect their own asses.

That´s it! no more no less -

That´s it! no more no less - they will loose day by day market shares - ....but they still have a huge pocket......so it will take some time before a big fish gets hungry

I think the answer is that

I think the answer is that they are both imperfect and irrelevant.

any word on the buzz about

Is it possible that old

Is it possible that old numbers was cooked by his son to please him? Couple of % might be easy to be moved around after all.

"The numbers look bad right after Dave died because he was making and selling the products and was the only one who was good at it (sarcasm). I don't think that Biorads quarterly report has anything to do with Dave cause I am guessing he didn't have a lot to do with day-to-day operations. I think you would have to look at any big decisions to see the impact of Dave being gone."

Why numbers eventually looks

Why numbers eventually looks bad as soon as David died?
It sounds to be a good reason for another round of layoff.

"The Life Science segment sales for the second quarter of 2012 were $162.4 million, a decrease of 4.4% compared to the same period last year. On a currency neutral basis, sales decreased 0.9% compared to the second quarter in 2011. The sales decrease was primarily driven by lower sales in the process chromatography product lines as sales in these product lines are usually large and tend to be infrequent. The currency neutral sales decline in the Life Science segment was driven primarily by total Europe and North America, while sales in the Pacific Rim and Latin America increased.

The Clinical Diagnostics segment sales for the second quarter of 2012 were $344.0 million, a decrease of 1.2% compared to the same period last year. On a currency neutral basis, sales increased 4.9% compared to the second quarter in 2011. Clinical Diagnostics had growth across most product lines on a currency neutral basis, most notably from quality controls, diabetes and BioPlex 2200 system. Currency neutral sales growth was primarily in eastern Europe and the Middle East, the Pacific Rim and the U.S., while the developed markets in western Europe decreased.

Bio-Rad is a mediocre company

Bio-Rad is a mediocre company with a Pez dispenser management system. That is, one crappy manager leaves and his crappy report moves up to replace him. Too many lifers just waiting to get their chance at the top. If you work there your best bet is to go work for another company if you don't like it at the Rad.
All their grand plans of SPR, SELDI, and now digital PCR have been failures, capturing little market share.

Many employees will be in for a big shock when (not if) they get acquired.

"It's a typical BioRad

"It's a typical BioRad ritual:
First year most of key people leave
Second year move to Hercules
Third year most of remaining folks be laid off."

Couldn't have said it better myself. I've been there and done that (or, more correctly, had it done to me.)

"All of the best engineers

"All of the best engineers are hitting the road. The ones that stay have been paid-off to stay or fit in with the mediocrity that defines Bio-Rad."

It's a typical BioRad ritual:
First year most of key people leave
Second year move to Hercules
Third year most of remaining folks be laid off. Or got laid such as these SELDI ladies.

How is digital droplet PCR

How is digital droplet PCR instrument selling? Will it be worth the $162 million, or will it be another fiasco like the MJ acquisition?

Whenever Biorad take over a

Whenever Biorad take over a company all the top staff feel they are treated like a beaten country in a war. "Do what we say", "Sell what we tell you to", "sell sell sell and don't worry if things work".

Engineers are no different and the quality staff soon leave or are poached.

You just have to look at the acquisition in Europe of Diamed. People are still leaving in droves over there.
