Have they become that irrelevant in the industry, or are they that perfect?

Having worked at Bio-Rad in

Having worked at Bio-Rad in the past and now worked for several other companies, I find that all companies are messed up to some degree. But, I would never hire anyone who's been a long-timer at Bio-Rad LSG. All the creativity and drive has been sucked out of them.

OK, so one one company took much longer than the other to reach irrelevancy?

It didn't help they got rid

It didn't help they got rid of all the QL ppl the minute they stepped on campus. And if they do happen to sell one somehow, it's DOA

At least the copycat 'new products' were functional (for the most part) and with a awaiting market. The same can't be said for ddPCR; ddPCR R&D is practically still being done on the fly with every demo and rare placement that happens.

While life tech is pushing out next gen sequencing instruments and new diagnostic kits, not to mention leading the field in PCR and qPCR, BR is too busy making copycat cyclers and chromatography instruments. Aside dpcr, what else did BR do in the last 5 years.... oh wait, Ciphergen.

You are either in your 20's or an incredibly ignorant person when it comes to this business. David Schwartz was one of the early visionaries of this industry and the company he formed has helped hundreds of thousands of researchers over what must be about 60 years. No, I don't work for Bio-Rad -- I actually work for a competitor and you clearly have a lot to learn about success, science and respect. Bio-Rad is one of the companies that helped pave the way for those of us who now compete against it. Perhaps some day you will look into the history of this business and understand its roots before making such a shallow comment.

Now we understand why the DBC hasn't developed anything since the QL acquisition - they were too busy developing a time machine. Phase Two will be a 'wish machine.'

Bio-Rad Form 10-K Filing Delayed

March 04, 2013: 08:00 AM ET

Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE: BIO) and (NYSE: BIO.B), a multinational manufacturer and distributor of life science research and clinical diagnostic products, announced today that the filing of its annual report on Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2012 has been delayed beyond the due date of March 1, 2013 because Bio-Rad has not finalized its assessment of the effectiveness of its internal control over financial reporting and has not finalized an accrual for royalties payable by the Company at December 31, 2012 under certain patent licenses from a third party.

As previously reported, Bio-Rad has enhanced and is continuing to improve and evaluate its internal control over financial reporting, including its processes and procedures relating to compliance with the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). Bio-Rad's Audit Committee conducted an investigation into conduct at the Company's overseas operations that may have violated the FCPA, and Bio-Rad voluntarily disclosed these matters to the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission, each of which is conducting an ongoing investigation. The Audit Committee has determined to continue its investigation based on matters that arose in connection with an assessment of the Company's accrual for royalties payable by the Company under the patent licenses from a third party.

Bio-Rad expects to finalize its assessment of the effectiveness of its internal control over financial reporting, finalize its accrual for the royalties at December 31, 2012 to the third party and file the Form 10-K as soon as practicable. Bio-Rad today filed a Notification of Late Filing on Form 12b-25 with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Pay grades and respective

Pay grades and respective salary ranges are all posted on livelink, it's hidden in the HR section. It was there a few weeks ago when I checked (along with a ppt for managers on how to deal with pissed-off employees during annual review, with words like "I understand how you feel", "it was a rough year for everyone" and "There's a ton of upside in this situation"

I'm flattered, really. 20 years experience was inferred from my facetious comment? I actually only have 22 years of experience on this planet. The only bench upon which I sat 20 years ago was my diaper-changing bench back when I was a wittle-bitty wee baby (inb4 TMI).

Hey, I know this guy. He works in R&D and likes to use big words to show how smart he is. Yet, he's spent the past 20 years as a bench scientist because nobody can stand to be around him, and there's no way anybody would put him in front of customers. He aspires to be in marketing. You can tell because he used the branding guidelines in his make-believe product name.

Those surveys assume that

Those surveys assume that exempt and non-exempt employees have equal votes. If I work in manufacturing, unionized and have access to the benefits (which to be honest, is slightly better than McDonalds and WalMart), of course this is a great place to work. Ever check out the parking lot at 4 pm??
Dot.com and technology firms do not have this level of manufacturing, it's all computers and programs and not unionized. Ask anyone at Bio-Rad if they'll jump at an offer from google, most would be gone by lunch time (maybe except SJ and BC, who doesn't really do anything except travel)

Those here being so negative about Bio-Rad have to be jealous employees from a competitor.
Seriously, think about it. Bio-Rad was selected as one of the ‘2012 Best Places to Work’ in the San Francisco bay area by the prestigious San Francisco Business Times and the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal.

Even other much more visible companies in the Bay Area like Google, Yahoo, etc., did not get this award, so Bio-Rad must be doing something right.

Yes. I agree with this critical thinking-influenced, absolutely parsimonious explanation of what must be occurring behind-the-scenes at Bio-Rad.

The evil executives have brainwashed their masses (using the Bio-Rad BrainWasherX1000, mind you) to the point that they actually falsely belive they are working in a good environment.

Could it be that it's simply a pretty solid place to work, and that this fact is communicated via trivials things such as media ratings for places in which to work? --Absolutely not. It is far more logical to conclude that everyone is mindless, brainwashed, lying, etc.

Now if you will kindly excuse me...I believe my mechanic just called-- to my delight he's managed to remove the dents from my tinfoil hat!

Ha ha ha. Best place to

Ha ha ha. Best place to work. Any company can collect votes from some rag. Just because a majority of un-motivated, comfortable, overpaid workers vote for it, doesn't make it true. Most have been with Bio-Rad since the dawn of time and don't know any better.

I think I know what must have

I think I know what must have occurred:

Bio-Rad paid SF Business Times for the award. The reality is that the ratio of [customers served : customers dissatisfied] = 1 and that 100.0% of global employees rank their happiness at 0 on a 0-1000 scale.

This concisely explains why Bio-Rad may exist as an evil, tanking, Communist place, yet at the same time bask in the accolades and praise bestowed upon the company by third-party evaluators.

Sincerely,
World Expert Internet Discussion Analyst, MD, PhD, DDS, JD
