BTW the lay off are on stand by, just waiting for that 2 year mark so they don't have to link it to merger, hence no need for severance package.

Here is a guy who prides himself in putting people out of work, proving he was wrong and feeling good about it. Total disconnect.

Funny to see lackeys

Funny to see lackeys defending the indefensible. They don't see metal detectors at the doorway so they deny that layoffs are looming. Well the bill for Ion Torrent, along with all the other ineffectual M&A, is in the mail and someone - other than GL of course - is going to be paying for it. And as people have said, Nov 21 is days away.

As for the pattern of buying companies, destroying, dimantling and disposing of them, there is a term for that - antitrust violation. And another - racketeering. Be funny to see the ivgn brain trust in jail but GL would probably end up being condemned to house arrest and get to spend his days relaxing in his mansion in Rancho Santa Fe or San Clemente or wherever he hangs his hat. Wouldn't compensate in justice for ruining the life of a single dishwasher or shipping clerk in the name of "synergy."

Yep... They got rid of the

Yep...

They got rid of the entire FC security department. The axe will fall this week.

Clean out your desks....

The close of the merger was

The close of the merger was Nov 21, 2008, so maybe all the doom and gloom is a week early?

They are big, but the lack of

They are big, but the lack of motivation will kill them on the long term. Or are you able to buy a sufficient numbers of companies every years, and just let them blow up once their quality and development is gone. In that case the end of the company life cycle is being bought by Life, or should they be renamed end-of-life technologies when it does not matter anymore.

"MANY disgruntled idiots

"MANY disgruntled idiots cruising this site just hoping for something bad. Never seems to go quite the way "they" say it will."

I wonder why there are SO MANY disgruntled former ABI/IVGN/Life employees?
Is it because they treat people like disposable plasticware?

Does anyone ever leave ABI/IVGN/Life on good terms?

As usual...much ado about

As usual...much ado about nothing.

Care to expand on this? Inflated sales numbers?

why have r and d when you can

why have r and d when you can just buy it for a 1 billion dollars ? Same for QC, no more QC. Everything needs to be shut way down except that ridiculous ion torrent program that is starting to look like a crazy hot air balloon.

It's both sales and R and D.

It's both sales and R and D. Most of foster, or what's left anyhow.

What departments are getting

What departments are getting cut? Mostly sales? Or R&D and marketing too?

Lay offs coming? Funny that -

Lay offs coming? Funny that - the severance agreement made when Tony sold ABI was valid for 2 years

2 year anniversary right around the corner. Anyone giving odds on whether GL will wait and try to save the sevarance money at the risk that the fraud lawsuits will pay out less? In hindsight it always seems GL made the most expensive, least effectual choice.

Yeah, I'd be careful what you

Yeah, I'd be careful what you take to work on Monday. In mass layoffs I've heard of cases where people had to leave purses and other personal belongings behind as they were escorted out by armed guards so they could be inspected before returned later at the convenience of the company. Sounds like the level of Lifetech's class,

Oxford Nanopore will blow

Oxford Nanopore will blow away SOLiD and Ion. Life passed them up, just like Solexa.

I never worked for BRL you

I never worked for BRL you boob. I was a customer since they had 10 items in their catalog, and have worked with them as a strategic partner and always respected them, but FWIW they are NOT the only Invitrogen cog that didn't suck. Molecular Probes didn't suck. They have since been infected by the rest of the fetid empire of course but were a classy organization with great products once upon a time.

You know what is even funnier, all the cogs that they bought to acquire technologies that were crap to begin with, like Genicon, then proceeded to destroy and discard along with the diligent employees yet went out of their way to keep the worthless execs of those companies who sold them the bill of goods in the first place, never brought any value and continue to be poison in the well.

I will take issue with the

I will take issue with the assertion that "Life sucks, always sucked ..." While not pretending to have an opionion on all the myriad constituents of the company, I will concede that Invitrogen always sucked, Applied Biosystems dba ABI, Perkin Elmer, ABI and Applied Biosystems always sucked, Ambion didn't necessarily suck but did suffer from delusions of grandeur, etc. etc. However, the original entity "Life" technologies, nee Bethesda Research Laboratories (with a soupcon of Grand Island Bilogicals, et al.) most certainly did not suck. It was a visionary company with excellent quality and high ethical standards. Thus it is inaccurate and unfair to maintain "Life...always sucked." That is all...

How convienent. Only the company that YOU worked for didn't "suck". (Yes - I realize that you will post denying this fact...)

You people are pathetic. I'm sure you would do much better if you ran a biotech company.

F***ing idiots. Bitch away...

Life sucked, sucks and will

Life sucked, sucks and will always suck. Get used to it.

I just read somewhere that

I just read somewhere that they are delivering 300 ipads to that incompetent layer of managers. They will be able to see all Siebel data in real time and harass the field folks daily, suck more blood out of their customers and make sure the biggest buyers get their prices hiked until they cannot bare it anymore.

It's all great but there is only one problem, they are going ahead with this while Siebel sucks so much, where there is 17 billion sold codes, where you cannot map destination... oh my god, it is truly a soda pop distribution place now isn't it ?

What happened to Shaf? He was

What happened to Shaf? He was the SOLiD golden boy?

That's pretty dead on, you

That's pretty dead on, you know, I can't wait next year, when every docotor's cabinet will have an ion torrent machine in it... oh my god, what are they thinking ? That and digital pcr, I mean come on folks, there is simply no rational there... Even if they did turn the boat around, the amount of moeny they threw at SOLID alone is scary (and now they are at what the 17th version of the solid ???). This iswhy I admire Flatley, he doesn't say he is going to change human condition, he helps those who do. ABI on the other, need no help... on medical chief office will do the trick...

GL is a middle of the pack

GL is a middle of the pack Harvard Business School guy. Decent at operations, getting blood out of stones. Doesn't make for a great work environment below the upper echelons. Creative financially, good at making most comparisons apples to oranges. There is almost always some "one time event" that makes it difficult to compare this quarter to that quarter. But on M&A, record is spotty at best. ChargeSwitch to blow away Qiagen. Arrays to blow away Affy (Affy has managed to blow themselves away). Antibodies to compete with BD. Failure to act on Solexa. Visigen. Time and time again upper level MBAs making poor technology choices (or simply vastly overpaying), because of a lack of a scientific advisory board (at least one with any real influence). Time will tell on ABI, but screwing this one up as badly as antibodies will be a major, major blow.

Multiple companies in stealth

Multiple companies in stealth mode out there. However, the ion torrent tech is a 1st generation hack from IP licensed from a university. Follow the history of that same university and you will see an ever more anything is ever sold. Lucifer just bought a
paper weight, a ball and chain, and anchor that will become the beginning of the end of his tenure at Life.

My my...how cryptic and prophetic the Wise Old Sage is!

I assume you run a large corporation yourself? Probably sit on the boards of many important businesses too. With this wealth of information you claim to possess, you must be very busy in high level meetings and such. I’m surprised that you even find time to wax poetic on anonymous rumor boards.

Yes. I'm sure you are much more knowledgable than everyone involved on this. I wonder why you weren't consulted before "Lucifer" (I see what you did there with the name thing - how creative) decided to throw Lifetech money down the drain?

We are "Staying Tuned"...for nothing.

Don't worry. GL has the industry's best JDs and PhDs at his disposal. No little detail slips through the cracks at LIFE. Just ask Visigen's former stockholders how perfect LIFE is at this kind of stuff.

"all of us contractors at

"all of us contractors at foster city are going to be stuck working here as second class citizens and most of us will be out of a job by the end of the year."

Why would this be?

Because nothing good can ever come from working at a big corporation. Especially when they try and expand or buy another business. Everyone knows that only the low level working stiffs know how to run a company and the people who are actually in senior management are idiots.

"all of us contractors at

....simpering simpleton,

....simpering simpleton, mealymouthed toadies, turd, Stooge....

Clearly you realize that your arguments hold no merit. Resorting to pseudo-intellectual name calling only makes you look more pathetic and delusional. I'm sure you feel vindicated with your juvenile postings, but the reality tells a different picture.

There is no conspiracy and Lifetech (or any other "big corporation") is not the boogieman. They all have issues and do things YOU may not agree with but, there is no secret agenda to screw the working man. You give yourself FAR more importance and relevance than will ever truly exist.

YOU would be the stooge here if you were even valid enough to even remotely matter.

Now...begin commenting on your own posts to seemingly validate your stupidity.

"selling enzymes to ILMN

"selling enzymes to ILMN ain't gonna last..."

I am surprised that ILMN buys anything from LIFE, let alone enzymes...

====he does deliver on

====he does deliver on earning though....which is what he was hired to do!!!====

Great sales rep but it will not last because he will face a huge gap between personal med acceptance and his own investments. R&D costs on via7 was a disaster and released unfinished, the flow cytometer is a complete boat anchor, Solid is installed at very low margins and buffer back orders slow down rev rec. Don't forget the 1 B to ion torrent...

IP and contractual agreement is what keeps the money flowing and selling enzymes to ILMN ain't gonna last...
