What's going on at LIFE?

Synergies=Layoffs
coming B4 year end.

It's worst than that, all the

It's worst than that, all the ABI arrogance has been adopted by cheap IVGN sales rep who left their brains behind, so you now have the worst of it. Arrogance beyond intelligence... The other reps simply went to Illumina...

As I recall, customers used

As I recall, customers used to say ABI stood for "Arrogance Beyond Imagination". Is this one of the cultural attributes that survived the acquisition?

"Molecular biologist are,

"Molecular biologist are, generally speaking, pretty dumb and stupid (and certainly cheap). So they buy IT."
This arrogant Illumina attitude is one reason these 'stupid' biologists are buying PGM's.

I am sorry to inform you that this IS and HAS BEEN Life Tech's attitude from the very first days at AB. You want to know how many customers I have shown over the years where the power button is ? Or how often I have asked 'have you read the manual'. Nobody reads anything anymore, everyone is switching to shit cheap products and then ask for troubleshooting... can't even unwrap manuals... Cheap and Dumb, your average so called High Tech employee in 2011.

I don't care if a company is

I don't care if a company is arrogant. I just want a product that works. So far Illumina has the best product out there and as any growing technology, it has hiccups but the majority of the time it does what it should.

I would not go buy something useless like an IT PGM because it does not do anything I need and I hate emulsion PCR. Even automated it is problematic. One touch is not that much of a game changer. Those are the most arrogant group anyway, they produce hot air and put out cocky youtube advertisements. If they had data to back up their attitude, that would be different.

Miseq will crush IT. 100x2

Miseq will crush IT. 100x2 RL from day one and walk away operation. IT is still stuck with emulsion, and by the time they get OneTouch working it will be too late.

Great coverage of another quality Life product. Their handling of this clearly shows the world their company culture.

So when you buy an Ion Torrent, you sign a non-disclosure form agreeing to not publish your data? How can LIFE possibly threaten customers with legal action for revealing how poorly their machines are performing?

I love open array. Here come my big nature and science papers that relied heavily on open array data. Be cool like me and run out and buy them.

Paying a Painful 75% Secrecy Tax
http://omicsomics.blogspot.com/2011/05/paying-painful-75-secrecy-tax.html

"Libraries with a mean sze >~220 bp yield results of reduced sequencing quality" (and that size is after adding adapters). Given that this is such a crucial point in amplicon design, why isn't it in the Application Note. I can make two guesses. One is a pure failure to think through what a customer might want to find in the note, as opposed to what marketing would like them to see. The other is worse: that the information was left out because it would need to change with each advance in the Ion chemistry.

Life show is a freaking joke.

Life show is a freaking joke. Spending money on that production instead of reinvesting it wisely into the company. Way to run the company into the ground.

Lucifer and his cronies don't

Lucifer and his cronies don't give a damn about their employees. They'll cut benefits and jobs so the bottom line looks good just so they get big bonuses. They have middle managers that work the employees to death and are not hesitant to layoff the same individual the very next day. Thanks for your loyalty, take as much time off as you want and don't come back!

OA is pure donkey shit and

OA is pure donkey shit and everyone at Life Tech knows that. It actually exemplifies everything wrong in the company because every body working on it are lying to each other and themselves.

Yet another technology that

Yet another technology that LIFE has over sold. Sure, functioning properly, OA has a niche market where it has advantages over RT PCR, but, given the reaction volumes, it requires a pre-amplification step to achieve RT PCR levels of sensitivity.

I love how people keep asking

I love how people keep asking for OA information... there isn't any! Hardly any papers and some papers with what I consider doctored data based on my OA usage. That thing is a pain plus I have to rely on ABI to get the damn arrays made. The hands on time is way way way under-estimated and the data quality is so poor. It requires artistic talent. The way our rep and the I think Product Manager(Boston)talked about it, it was all so easy to handle, now I see the scam. I hear tons of people have them, no one use them... zero usage... We paid 20K for that monster but now we need the space, BASTA ! I'm ashamed at buying into the BS.

"Of course Life is still

"Of course Life is still extremely profitable and is doing quite well. The only indication that anything is "wrong" is on this site where a few idiots constantly post up rumors and BS.

Agree. The quote above exemplifies the BS.

It is not a POS it is a Pile

It is not a POS it is a Pile of Sh*!

i dont know why anyone tries

i dont know why anyone tries to defend open array. sure it works but isn't supposed to be better than what is already out there...if it isnt then why bother?

OA can work, but it's not as

OA can work, but it's not as sensitive as Real Time machines. So people get their data and compare it to RT, and then they think it is junk. It can genotype, expression i dont know.

gene expression or genotyping

gene expression or genotyping on the open array?
ive only done genotyping. provided I load the arrays correctly and none of my samples smear in the stupid little case they have me put the array in for cycling. the clusters are still terrible. there is no distinguishable separation. it's just one big blob sometimes. It's happened far too many times to me and when I ask LIFE about it they have no explaination for any of it.

Yes, I have used it many

Yes, I have used it many times. It seems to work fine. Nothing special about it for sure but it is certainly not a complete "POS" as people are writing on this forum.

The flow could be a little better, but it does what it is supposed to do with too much of a hassle.

have you used the machine?

have you used the machine? then give us your opinion about it. other than the simple comment that it works...I simply gave my experience with it. I learned the complicated workflow and even had several demonstrations given to me by LIFE, it still produced crappy data

trust me, i've used the

trust me, i've used the machine and lost some very important samples. that platform simply does not work.

Why should anybody trust you? You're just another anonymous shlub on the internet complaining about something. The internet is full of people like you who do nothing but complain and spread bile all over the place.

Many people would disagree with you on this. Of course, they are busy working and using this equipment that "doesn't work" so they probably won't post up much. Even when they do - it falls on deaf ears. You can't teach the unwilling or stupid it seems.

was it data you generated and

was it data you generated and analyzed on your own from the open array? or was it presented to you by Lifers?

trust me, i've used the machine and lost some very important samples. that platform simply does not work. don't get me started about the workflow. the salesman who sold me the machine told me it would take 1 hr hands on time. yea...1 hour to load the array and then 4 hours later i find out my data is all crap.

Again what is wrong with it?

Again what is wrong with it? Data quality? Usability? When was the last time someone sold a highthroughput instrument (in comparison with the rest of market) with proper expectations? I'm just curious as I have seen data and it's not that bad.

Of course Life is still

Of course Life is still extremely profitable and is doing quite well. The only indication that anything is "wrong" is on this site where a few idiots constantly post up rumors and BS.

In the real world - Life is doing great. Here...not so much.

Good thing we live in the real world.

Are you kidding me, the Open

Are you kidding me, the Open Array is a boat anchor, no one uses this POS except for a few folks who got one for free. It is by far one of the worst piece of junk ABI has ever made, herrr wait, they never made it, they bought it and canned the company all together... Some reps have lost major account credibility on this instrument. One PM took the empty job and fled about 10 days later, when he saw his job was basically to explain all the caveats of OA. Including the Super Array Bioscience panels they had bitched at for 2 years... hahaha what a joke of a company...

What is so bad about the open

Obama cut all the government grants. LIFE is under great revenue pressure due to this fact. Q2 numbers will definitely be weak.

They don't buy other

They don't buy other companies by cutting back on travel and catering. To buy other companies, they just go in the back room and dilute shareholder value by printing up a bunch more shares, or borrowing money with the promise to pay it back in the future with newly printed shares that, again, dilute shareholder value.

Travel and catering are to make Q2 numbers. All kinds of stuff must be hitting the fan for them to realize that halfway through Q2 there is going to be a big problem come the end of June. This kind of stuff usually didn't happen until the last week or so of the quarter.
