Most of the IT consultants are employed by the business, not IT. FC IT has been targeted because legacy IVGN has IT operations staff in Frederick, and applications staff in Carlsbad, and wants to get rid of the expense of a third site, regardless of expertise or quality of performance. The promised meritocracy is nowhere to be found in IT.
Interesting that they let go of the most expert of the IT SAP technical staff, plus gave notice to the Help Desk, Desktop Support, and telecom, plus several very senior systems engineers, when IVGN had no expertise in SAP, nor any knowledge of the ABI sites or applications.

The next phase of the master plan of synergy savings must unfold soon. Life is 3 1/2 weeks from Qtr end. Gotta make the numbers. GL needs to get your salary off of his balance sheet. Nothing personal. Oh, what? You are not replaceable, your area will not be affected, your location won't be touched? RLOL

Well, Lucifer and his merry band of slashers is at it once again. A whole slew of unsuspected layoffs has the buildings in Carlsbad rocking.
Highly skilled, higher paid and very respected people were let go without warning to them. In the case of one poor, yet very respected soul, her manager wasn't even told nor was his director.
Ladies & gents, place your bets. Who gets the axe yet? Which other insufferable pricks (e.g., JChes)will remain?

My answer to the question? Who cares. Maybe they will buy 10 more companies in 2009 so they can screw those up too and open up more markets for small comapnies to fill. LIFE sucks and then hopefully they'll die. Stock price in the 20's coming.....

Maui has been launched as 3500 at ESHG last week. Basics are:
8 or 24 cap capillary electrophoresis, new consumables format, new software, faster run times, easier to use. Marketed to all CE customer segments, Dx instrument option for Europe, 3130 series discontinued end of year

Apparently there is some drama in Austin. Rosetta Genomics received a bad batch of material from LIFE's predecessor and they are not very happy about it. It all traces back to the consistent fabrication of data by a supervisor there. We understand that this person is leaving to infest another local company.

The 40 layoffs posted for July were in addition to 75 in January. This isn't old news, it's new news, and it's not over.
Also, I believe that the Pleasanton site is too small to fall under CWARN, so it needn't be filed by Life Tech, and wouldn't be listed on the web site. Thus - no definitive data on Pleasanton.

Here's the display if you query Life Tech for July:
Layoff date Company name City Number of employees affected

By the way - such a filing isn't necessarily correct -- this filing has been posted for months, and can be amended after the fact with no penalty. Example -- Kaiser Permanente is laying off almost 800 people in IT, but still hasn't amended its original filing, which appeared on 5/15, the same date that it was to be effective:
