They used to be #1 in the US and the world in diagnostics, then their leaders left, the FDA moved in and total incompetence followed. They continue to lose good talent and have mediocre products. And again as they did two years ago, they cut their customer-facing departments, while continuing to be so top-heavy they keep falling over themselves. The most recent reduction of 200 has established Roche as probably the only $1billion organization that does not have a true customer service department, or leader. Instead of going from "good to great", they've gone from "great to desperate".

So how is Mr. Phillips doing as a CEO. KJind of an OK VP then SVP at Ventana.
How is Hany doing as President of Ventana. He is the nicest Narcisist I know. Does he still pick at the back of his head when he is nervous. Does he still treat Heb employees as shit?

Metastatic breast cancer,
Metastatic breast cancer, HER-2 negative, is the intended use of the product, among others. Roche really needs to go to Charm School so they can learn to make friends with the FDA!
The drug with the most
The drug with the most potential in the Roche Pharma line is a possible HIV cure. Brand name is Trinoassatall.
Well, if you must know the
Well, if you must know the FDA did not reject Avastin, they recommended that it not be used for breast cancer, however, CMS (you know, the people who ACTUALLY make the financial decision) said that they will now and continue to cover Avastin under medicare and medicaid. The FDA operates under archaic guidelines expecting every drug to be a "cure all, fix all" and that very reason is why so many pharma giants are collapsing or adding a diagnostic division i.e. Eli Lilly. Personalized medicine is the future.
It is also important to note the FDA never said Avastin didn't work. You'll probably be wrong, again, about pertuzumab.
Roche cancer drug
Roche cancer drug pertuzumab...Roche can not even prove the stuff works!! FDA will reject another recalled drug waiting to happen. try again Roche. How about you just make Skittles instead.

Been a long time since checking. Reloaded bookmarks and this came up. Still see the same bunch of posters, mostly from Indy. It's so funny to see the half dozen unhappy Indianapolis folks posting their knowledge about Roche, especially about SS. God, its so funny to see cubicle workers making reference to anything above their current position.
27 yrs with Roche and counting and i just love it, pays my car payment, house mortgage, kids college tuition, health benefits and i sure needed a few yrs ago with my illness. Thank you Roche for being a wonderful company that leads the field in all aspects. We'll get over the hump in a few yrs once the dozen or so patents in the pipe line come out and the economy rebounds.
Again, thank you ROCHE !!!!

The street agrees with the
The street agrees with the value destruction that SS buying spree has spawned-massive decline in market cap since he took the helm! Genetech, once the crown jewel of U.S. Biotech, demoralized under SS. SS choose JS to lead the diagnostics division and his reign of terror demoralized diagnostics that lead to the downward spiral.
How many screw ups will the board allow SS before they show him the door? It is sad that he took 2 great performing Roche companies and managed to run them both down. It is not too late for Roche if the board is willing to take strong, decisive action and fire SS ASAP!
The whole bio pharma
The whole bio pharma franchise that Roche acquired from Genentech is falling apart. Longer range studies are showing for several drugs that there is marginal benefit at extreme costs. Roche's bet on biopharma and Genentech has not paid off. For every $1B they will lose in revenue Roche loses $900M + in profit. Expect "draconian" cuts that will hit thousands of folks globally within Roche.
Focus on your job and be successful to the extent possible under these circumstances but have a viable "exit plan" when and if the axe falls.
Actually it will be a loss of
Actually it will be a loss of most likely a billion dollars, but if you think that people with "gray" hair are the ones that will get fired you are an idiot. Pharmaceutical reps are not what someone would call "old" on avg. They are entry level jobs mostly. So instead of $6 billion now they'll only get $5 billion from Avastin. It happens. That's the world of pharma. You can suck at your job, get fired (like the disgruntled loser below), and then not get a new job or you can be the best you can be in each situation and use that to your advantage.
roche's genentech division
roche's genentech division lost with the FDA today so Avastin, one of their cancer drugs, was determined to be worthless for breast ca treatment. That will mean the loss of millions of dollars of revenue. Have to make that up somehow. Get rid of more people with gray hair!! That appears to be the mantra.
Getting rid of people costs
Getting rid of people costs is an integral part of the transformation, and in hitting the financial and other targets. Simplify/Focus/Eliminate redundancy and non-value add.

M.T. finally got his gift! "Resigned" today. What a complete, total, utter failure he is. He has categorically DESTROYED Roche in less than 18 months. I hope that the rest of his cronnies, like J-nti M, and other will fall next. Congrats people of the Indy site, you won!
Dan O, Great call. You have sent a very clear message to the Roche group that nasty, incompetent people will not prevail in leadership.
M.T. hope you enjoy your season of unemployment. Word is widespread in the industry that you are an unfit leader for any ethical type of company. Maybe you should look for a career in trash hauling.
