Roche Diagnostics downward spiral

They used to be #1 in the US and the world in diagnostics, then their leaders left, the FDA moved in and total incompetence followed. They continue to lose good talent and have mediocre products. And again as they did two years ago, they cut their customer-facing departments, while continuing to be so top-heavy they keep falling over themselves. The most recent reduction of 200 has established Roche as probably the only $1billion organization that does not have a true customer service department, or leader. Instead of going from "good to great", they've gone from "great to desperate".

The CEO's of the US since

The CEO's of the US since then have gone down hill. HVP (acting CEO), TO, and MT. As someone mentioned "The fish rots from the head down". Given 3 CEO failures, and 4 CEO's in 5 years, is there any question as to why the site has continued it's downward spiral? and gotten much worse? Wait, I forgot the disaster of spliting RDC into RDO (under KK) and RDC (under MT). What were the folks in Basel smoking?

Given how well both DW and MM

Given how well both DW and MM did after leaving Roche it seems like one of the best qualifications for success in the industry is former CEO of NA for Roche Diagnostics

The others who should be

The others who should be shown the door are JM CD Sales and Marketing, and WBS, Corp Communications, thankfully, CW, former head of HR is out of the country.

Marko Cesaerini?

Marko Cesaerini?

Now if MT's poster boy MC

Now if MT's poster boy MC would get shown the door...and soon!!

Good to hear about JP & steps

Good to hear about JP & steps in the right direction. No more tent circuses and watercolor artists.

See new thread that has begun- Why Roche Diagnostics Still Matters

Great to hear the news on JP.

Great to hear the news on JP. I only met JP once, and was very impressed with him. It is great to hear that he is behaving in a such a great manner. I left Roche 15 months ago and was horrified by the way that MT treated people. JP, there are many good people at Roche who were beat up and treated with total disrespect. If you do some house cleaning of a few high level people, you will win the hearts of the masses, and you will get the campus engaged and excited once again.

JP seems to be doing a good

JP seems to be doing a good job so far...he is listening and learning rather than making it all about him like MT did. He is forming his own opinions by sitting with the different leadership teams and reviewing their priorities and issues rather than walking in with a "you are all incompetent and I am here to show you the way" attitude. He did a great job at the NSM and people have some hope that he will return a level of sanity to the campus.

Where's JP? When MT took over

Where's JP? When MT took over his face was splashed all over everthing.

Roche's Downward Spiral: The

Roche's Downward Spiral:
The issue is the Indy's organization and it's INABILITY to:
* hit the numbers
* keep market share in the US (e.g. Diabetes failure)
* provide quality products (too many failures to mention)
* achieve management credibility in Basel (KK, MMc, MT, TO fiascos)
among others.
I did read the original post, I would think it was written yesterday- not nearly 2 years ago and nearly a thousand posts later. Things have only gotten worse. That is Roche:
Making the Same Mistakes Over and Over and OVER again.
Tolerating the same incompetence from management to management.
Basically you have a company who keeps doing what they have been doing and they keep expecting something different.

I will believe MMc is out of

I will believe MMc is out of Supply Chain when I see it. She knows where the bodies are buried for so many people. Then again, she has threatened a lot of people so I would guess she has her own bodies in various places as well...

Who is EK? & AT? Roche needs

Who is EK? & AT? Roche needs to shake off the losers. Let them go be and do-nothings at Lilly in time for their inevitable buy-out/takeover.

Very reliable sources

Very reliable sources indicate that MMc's days as head of RDO Supply Chain may be numbered. The structure of RDO Supply Chain is going to be very different. Wait for it, wait for it.... it's coming very soon.

I recommend that this string

I recommend that this string start to leave KK alone. He has been removed from any meaningful management responsibilities for RDC/RDO. Good luck as an individual contributer, heaven know quality and compliance in the US need a lot of work!

Let's work on getting MMc out of any management responsibilities next.... She would make a decent business finance person (if you can trust her)?

KK has no backbone, MM has no

KK has no backbone, MM has no ethics, SH has no brains (bald head left the cells unprotected).

SS is married to one of the

SS is married to one of the Roche descendants. The chances that he gets kicked out of the CEO spot are approximately equal to:

* Me winning the powerball twice in a row,
* MT being a decent guy who was simply "misunderstood",
* AT returning to Roche,
* EK being a humble man,
* KK actually having "friends" other than his cronies SH and MM,
* SH curing Diabetes Care from it's "death rattles",
* MM getting fired by KK
* non exempt employees getting another "profit sharing" check,

and

* Indy returning to it's former self as a real manufacturing center.

In other words, NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

Hopefully Humer and the board

Hopefully Humer and the board will see the issues with SS's mistakes.

The real mistake was that SS

The real mistake was that SS promoted JS, and then JS promoted MT. It might best be described as a lineage of corruption and dishonesty. SS was warned, in writing, in January 2010 that MT was involved in unethical business conduct. SS choose to ignore this warning and allowed MT to destroy shareholder value in 2010. SS is a young, inexperienced leader who does not have the business maturity to run such a vast organization. He overpaid for Ventana, and he overpaid for Genetech and his legacy of irresponsible moves will be evident 5 years from now. The old saying is true: "The fish stinks from the head down!"

I'm no expert on grammar, but

I'm no expert on grammar, but I think the first poster's text was technically correct. I noticed a bunch of typos on the comment from the second person. Maybe you two can get together and debate appropriate use of the English language.

AT will never go back to

AT will never go back to Roche. He has a ggreat job at Thermo Fisher and much more power. Plus, why would he go back to a company that tolerated a bully such as MT?

Just throwing out the current

Just throwing out the current management does no good unless they are replaced wiht competent, knowledgable professionals who can direct and grow the business. After the way AT was treated people with those skills are probably unwilling to work for Roche.
They should pay him (AT) WHATEVER he wants to come back and give him free reign to run the whole diagnostics show!

AT and his team were doing

AT and his team were doing right stuff. then comes MT which is reason why most of this posts exist. JS made big mistake with MT.

The only folks who make the

The only folks who make the High Potential list at RDC/RDO are those hired from the ouside in the last three years who have not had time to make enemies yet with the old "crony" (eg. MM, KK) culture.

The management in the Dx

The management in the Dx Commercial group has been repeatedly blown up with very little positive impact. The way to improve things in the US is to put in place a competent experienced leadership team
(no political favorites, no high potentials without experience etc.) , craft a credible strategy, give them reasonable goals and then give them two years to make it work

There is no real business

There is no real business reason to move out of Indy. People just like to talk about it.
The bottom line they are worried about making money. The east coast or west coast neither come close when it comes to the price of doing business. And why would you want to move your service and customer/technical support operations out of their cheap, centrally located location to one of the coasts? Doesnt really make sense if you think about it.

They can blow the organization up right where it sits in Indy and start over if they want.

No it doesn't mean they will

No it doesn't mean they will move out of Indy, it means that the Swiss need to throw out the current management. This will start in the next weeks with meetings currently underway in Europe.

Well that doesn't mean they

Well that doesn't mean they have to move location out of Indy.

A cheap location to operate

A cheap location to operate (Indy) for RDC does not provide any motivation for the Swiss to leave the operation here. The issue is the Indy's organization and it's INABILITY to:
* hit the numbers
* keep market share in the US (e.g. Diabetes failure)
* provide quality products (too many failures to mention)
* achieve management credibility in Basel (KK, MMc, MT, TO fiascos)

among others. Read the original post, you would think it was written yesterday- not nearly 2 years ago and nearly a thousand posts later. Things have only gotten worse.

Cost of doing business in Indy is only a tactical consideration. The Swiss want to slash and burn and start over with a leadership team that can deliver.

Funny. One could say the same

Funny. One could say the same for Lilly. The fact is that there is probably no place in North America that's cheaper to operate from than Indianapolis.

Roche could probably recoup

Roche could probably recoup their investment by selling the property. It has plenty of parking, office space, warehouse space, and manufacturing space. Also could be used for medical practices and outpatient services. The buildings were built to be versatile so why not? Eco-friendly HVAC as well as R&D support infrastructure.

That'll be the day

That'll be the day

No one has cared for a long

No one has cared for a long time. The Indy campus should fetch a healthy price when the economy rebounds.

it's not so talkative. since

it's not so talkative. since mt gone nobody gives a care?

That's from the wrong end of

That's from the wrong end of Europe. Gestapo tactics would be more appropriate here.

Fear tactics did not work to

Fear tactics did not work to squelch the truth in the soviet union.

And anonymity in this

And anonymity in this environment is an illusion. Phrases and usage are like fingerprints and handwriting. It's just a matter of reasources to trace ISP's and LAN information, and we are talking about some serious reasources and very, very deep pockets.

Don't even bring up the CIA

Don't even bring up the CIA and Roche, especially the old Boehringer Mannheim. BM actually hijacked a FedEx truck in Germany full of compromising Elecsys documentation.

I see. Your true identity

I see. Your true identity will surely be revealed through correct spelling. Roche sure is fortunate to have hired people with such obvious CIA-caliber espionage skills.

Some posts have intentional misspelling to help mask identity; others are probably just sloppy text inputs from handheld devices.

any dirt under Roche Indy's

any dirt under Roche Indy's "rug" that would qualify for an employee payment under the Whisle Blower statute?

I have heard some pretty horid stories, of just plain negligence (product, customer risk)in management decisions..

Roche is the Only company

Roche is the Only company that I know
to "scrap" more product than it sells!

Not to mention moral is so low that if it was
blood sugar u would have to us a bayer meter
to test it.

Just like Toyota at first blaming the rugs for
sticking accelerators

Major safety issue with the rugs at Roche-
too much corporate trash under them.

Roche is too top heavy and have the admin
and hr have GEDs
They sit in there upstairs offices hitting control z
all day. And looking for the "any key"

cookies tents bad local bands and cakes
will not fix this sad company duh!

It does not matter anymore

It does not matter anymore what the Germans think!
Actually from my point of view scince a while.

SWISS!!!!

No!

No!

Is there going to be

Is there going to be performance sharing for 2009?

I agree. Enough on KK and

I agree. Enough on KK and MM. What does product area mean for SH and what do the Germans think of US centric leadership team?

How can they sacrifice

How can they sacrifice integrity when they did not have any to begin????
